Octopus Energy Group is partnering with CATL and Ampace Technology to develop new ranges of home battery storage, the company said, building on its planned Nook battery that stores between 2 and 10 kWh. The Independent reported the agreement on November 3, 2026.

Octopus Energy's Battery Partnership With CATL and Ampace

Octopus Energy said the agreement with CATL, a zero-carbon new energy technology firm, and Ampace, a lithium-ion battery technology firm, will target longer system lifecycles and far more affordable home batteries. The company already plans to release the Nook in two options for larger or smaller amounts, each storing between 2 and 10 kWh. According to Ofgem figures cited by the company, the upper figure is a little over a medium-sized house's daily energy use.

Battery storage lets units draw in power when energy is cheap and release it later when prices rise, avoiding higher-billed energy. Octopus Energy said a home battery at its most efficient should also be able to send power back to the grid to further cut household bills. The company already offers heat pumps and EV chargers alongside the Nook options.

Ampace Technology launched an AIDC Battery Solutions White Paper at Data Center World Asia 2026, examining how dynamic AI workloads reshape battery requirements, according to ANTARA News.

Jason Zhu, president of energy storage at Ampace, said: "The future of energy is not just about generating or storing more power, but about making energy smarter, more connected, and more accessible." Greg Jackson, CEO of Octopus Energy Group, said the partnership "will transform home energy storage." Raymond Ye, president of residential energy storage systems at Ampace, said Europe's energy transition is creating growing demand for smarter and more flexible home energy solutions.

Octopus Energy's Earlier Battery and Charging Moves

According to akta.pro company records, Octopus Energy formed the Swaptopus 50-50 joint venture with CATL in June 2026 to build a battery swapping network for electric trucks, targeting more than 30 mega-hubs and 300,000 trucks by 2035. The same records show a June 2026 partnership with AlphaESS integrating its AlphaConnect software platform with Octopus Energy in the UK across more than 100,000 systems in 12 countries.

Octopus Energy's Recent Charging and Solar Expansion

In October 2026, Octopus negotiated up to 30% off public EV charging for fleets using major networks, covering 99% of the UK within 14 miles of a charging site, Autocar reported. In September 2026, Octopus Energy US launched Octopus Charge, a unified charging app giving drivers access to 211,221 chargers across 24 partner networks in the US and Canada, according to of Sustainability News. In August 2026, a UK homeowner received a £10,761 solar quote from Octopus for 10 panels and a battery, The Cool Down reported.
