Cloudsky and China Mobile (Shanghai) Industry Research Institute jointly developed a cloud-based in-vehicle infotainment platform, showcased at the Wuzhen expo, that offloads AI inference and content rendering to cloud and edge nodes. Business & Financial reported the platform's 1.0 phase supports cloud deployment for around a million applications.
How the Cloud IVI Platform Works
The platform provides real-time intelligent services and computing resources for smart cockpits. Automotive-grade chips have limited processing power and long upgrade cycles, which makes demanding applications such as resource-intensive games and multiplayer experiences difficult to run in vehicles. The platform moves workloads including AI inference and content rendering to cloud and edge nodes, giving cockpits computing capacity that scales with demand.
In its 2.0 phase, the platform introduces an AI agent runtime, shifting from deploying applications in the cloud to executing tasks there. Users state their goals, and the system selects tools and coordinates tasks across applications. The system also uses graphical user interface automation to interact with applications that lack accessible APIs. Smartphone connectivity lets users continue tasks across devices after leaving the vehicle.
The solution also helps bring intelligent features to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. With cloud computing resources and the software platform, vehicles can access AI applications, interactive entertainment and AI agent services without extensive hardware replacement.
"Smartphones, computers, VR headsets, smart in-vehicle systems, robots - devices of the future will be lighter and slimmer, and every device will serve as a gateway to real-time intelligence," said Crusoe Mao, chairman and CEO of Cloudsky.
China Mobile plans to invest over 100 billion yuan ($15 billion) in computing infrastructure in 2027, accelerating gigawatt-scale data center construction, Caixin Global reported on November 6.
Cloudsky's Funding and Network Scale
Cloudsky closed a Series E financing round exceeding RMB 1 billion (~$140 million) in June 2026, led by the state-backed China Internet Investment Fund with CICC Capital, according to akta.pro company records. The same records describe the round as the largest single investment in China's edge computing sector in 2026. Cloudsky's global edge computing network spans more than 300 cities and serves over 600 million users, the records show.
Earlier Cloudsky Appearances
CloudSky participated in Web Summit Rio in June 2026, where Co-founder Kevin Xu delivered a keynote on edge cloud infrastructure titled "The Last Mile of Intelligence," Acrofan reported. During the speech, Xu cited industry data showing that inference workloads will drive a global inference market exceeding US$250 billion by 2028, Streetinsider reported. The same report said Xu highlighted China's 1,400-fold growth in daily token consumption over two years.
