Key takeaways

  • Nexans signed a subcontract with Hellenic Cables, in consortium with Asso.subsea, to deliver a 420 km MI 110 kV cable system for the Corinth-Kos HVDC interconnection.
  • The 1 GW, 320 kV project comprises approximately 1,260 km of subsea cable and 30 km of land cable connecting the Dodecanese islands to mainland Greece.
  • Production activities on Nexans' MI lines and a seabed survey have begun, with the lines set for use from end of 2026 through mid-2028.

Nexans signed a subcontract to deliver a 420 km MI 110 kV cable system for the Corinth-Kos HVDC interconnection in Greece, the company said in a Stock Titan report on November 6, 2026. The Paris-based cable maker, which operates in 39 countries with 12,830 people and generated €6.1 billion in standard sales in 2025, will supply the 110 kV system as part of the 1 GW, 320 kV link.

Nexans' Role in the Corinth-Kos Interconnection

The subcontract runs with Hellenic Cables, in consortium with Asso.subsea. The Independent Power Transmission Operator awarded the interconnection to Hellenic Cables. The project comprises approximately 1,260 km of subsea cable and 30 km of land cable connecting the Dodecanese islands to mainland Greece.

Nexans will deliver the 110 kV cable system, which the company describes as a critical component of the HVDC link that enables safe and reliable operation of the interconnection. Project-related activities on Nexans' MI cable production lines and a seabed survey have been initiated. Those activities will contribute to utilizing the production lines starting end of 2026 throughout 2027 and to mid-2028.

"This project reflects the growing need for high-voltage transmission infrastructure to connect regions, strengthen power networks and support electrification," said Pascal Radue, EVP PWR-Transmission at Nexans. "We are proud to contribute our expertise to this landmark interconnection project that will play an important role in Greece's electricity infrastructure."

Hellenic Cables, a Greek cable manufacturer, has doubled its submarine cable production capacity and operates five facilities across three countries, Trend reported on October 24, 2026.

Earlier Nexans Contract and Production Moves

On October 22, 2026, Stock Titan reported that Nexans was selected as preferred supplier by Red Eléctrica for the Mallorca-Menorca 3 interconnection, a 132 kV HVAC cable link whose tender includes a six-month engineering phase leading to a delivery contract and project start mid-2027. On October 16, 2026, EIN Presswire reported that Nexans began manufacturing 525 kV HVDC subsea cables for the LanWin2 offshore grid connection in Germany, its first industrial-scale production of that technology, under a EUR 1 billion contract covering about 250 km of cable systems with commissioning expected in 2031.

Nexans' MI Line Schedule Through 2028

Nexans said the Corinth-Kos work will occupy its MI production lines from end of 2026 through 2027 and to mid-2028. The company said production activities and the seabed survey are already underway.
