STMicroelectronics Launches STM32G5 Microcontrollers for AI Datacenter Power and Robotics

By ·

Key takeaways

  • STMicroelectronics' STM32G5 series is in production with prices starting at $1.0340 for orders of 10,000 pieces.
  • The STM32G5 runs an Arm Cortex-M33 core at 280MHz and delivers twice the compute performance of the STM32G4 series.
  • STMicroelectronics plans to enlarge the STM32G5 single-core portfolio in 2027 with dual-core products.

STMicroelectronics has put its STM32G5 series of mixed-signal microcontrollers into production, with prices starting at $1.0340 for orders of 10,000 pieces, the company said in a GlobeNewswire announcement on November 4, 2026. The chips target power supplies in AI datacenters and motor control in robotics.

What The STM32G5 Series Adds

The STMicroelectronics STM32G5 is built on an Arm Cortex-M33 core running at 280MHz and delivers twice the compute performance of the STM32G4 series. The series adds an enhanced 12-channel high-resolution timer, a position encoder, a PLAy programmable logic array and hardware security, with on-chip Flash from 64Kbytes to 512Kbytes and packages from QFN32 to LQFP128.

Patrick Aidoune, general manager of the General Purpose and Automotive Microcontrollers Division, said: "This new generation of microcontrollers addresses the challenge to meet the growing energy needs of AI datacenters efficiently, realize more sophisticated humanoid robots, and power more complex motor-control systems."

Andy Hsiao, senior commodity buyer at Delta Electronics' PSBG Materials Division, said the STM32G5 combines "processing power, integrated peripherals, and built-in security" for digital-power designs. Paul Tian, CEO of Ruiyan Intelligent Control, said the chip delivers "more than twice the performance of the previous generation" for dexterous robotic hands.

STMicroelectronics' Physical AI Positioning

According to akta.pro company records, STMicroelectronics raised $1.5 billion in June 2026 through a dual-tranche convertible bond offering, partly to fund AI data center capacity. The same records show CEO Jean-Marc Chéry repositioned ST in June 2026 from a component supplier to an application enabler focused on "physical AI" spanning mobility, industrial automation and humanoid robotics. The records also list a June 2026 stake in Oversonic Robotics.

Earlier STMicroelectronics Launches

STMicroelectronics launched four automotive safety combination sensors integrating accelerometers and gyroscopes for mass-market vehicles on October 26, 2026, according to Stock Titan. On October 21, 2026, EIN Presswire reported the company added MasterGaN7 devices to its integrated power family, featuring 650V GaN transistors with a 6A maximum current rating. On October 20, 2026, EIN Presswire reported the launch of ST MatterConnect, a service that loads authentication credentials into secure chips for Matter smart-home devices.

STM32G5 Dual-Core Products In 2027

STMicroelectronics said the STM32G5 single-core portfolio will be enlarged in 2027 with dual-core products offering more performance and peripherals. The company's STM32G5 product page lists the series alongside the NUCLEO-G564RE board, the B-G564E-MC1S motor control kit and the B-G564E-DPOW1 digital power kit.
