Eric Becker's Record at Cresset and Sterling Partners

Becker founded Cresset, a multi-family office with more than $260 billion in assets under management and advisement. He previously co-founded Sterling Partners, a private equity firm that raised more than $5.7 billion across eight funds. He also founded the Caretta Group, Vennpoint and LifeCard International, which focus on growth investments, real estate and healthcare technology.

Peter Gilgan, CEO of Mattamy Asset Management and founder of Mattamy Homes, said Becker's experience fits how the firm has been built. "Eric brings a combination of entrepreneurial experience, investment expertise and long-term thinking that resonates strongly both with how we have built Mattamy and our ambitions for the future," Gilgan said.

Taylor, who chairs the board, said Becker's background spans investment, entrepreneurship and business building. "He brings a distinctive breadth of experience across investment, entrepreneurship and business building that will complement the considerable expertise already around our table," she said.

Becker is the author of The Long Game, a book on long-term entrepreneurial leadership. He received the Adams Entrepreneurial Pioneer Award from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2016. He is a current member of R360 and serves on the boards of Peakline, Chesapeake Spice and the Karma for Cara Foundation.

Mattamy established an external board of directors in 2010 as a governance practice. The other members are Taylor, Carol Stephenson, David Williams, Tim Hockey, Larry Nicholson and Luke Gilgan. Nicholson is vice chair of Mattamy Homes, and Luke Gilgan is chief sustainability officer of Mattamy Asset Management and director of programs at the Gilgan Family Office.

Mattamy's US Homebuilding Footprint

Mattamy Asset Management is the parent of Mattamy Homes Canada and Mattamy Homes U.S., which the company describes as the largest family-owned homebuilding platform in North America, according to akta.pro company records. The same records describe a multi-state footprint across four US Sun Belt states, with divisions in Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and Texas, and an in-house Design Studio for buyer customization. The records list a headcount range of 51-100 and a revenue estimate of $1 billion-$5 billion.

Board Changes at Mattamy

Mattamy's board was set up as an external board in 2010, and Becker's appointment adds a seventh member alongside Taylor, Stephenson, Williams, Hockey, Nicholson and Luke Gilgan. The company's own announcement describes the board as a governance best practice for the privately owned firm.
