Ensemble Health Partners announced on November 2, 2026, the expansion of its intelligent financial advocacy capabilities to help health systems identify patients at risk of losing insurance coverage and guide eligible patients through state-specific Medicaid enrollment. The Cincinnati-based revenue cycle management company said the initiative supports enrollment across all 50 states and aims to help nearly 50,000 patients identify coverage options monthly.
Ensemble's Predictive Medicaid Enrollment Model
Ensemble's approach combines coverage discovery data from multiple sources with patient intelligence to determine which patients may be uninsured or underinsured and what assistance they may qualify for. The company then applies intelligence about patient communication preferences to determine the right channel and timing for engagement. Those insights power a coordinated patient engagement ecosystem spanning digital, voice and onsite support.
Connections with electronic health record systems allow Ensemble to leverage native EHR functionality for patient communications, including patient portal messaging and other digital engagement channels. For voice outreach, Ensemble combines Sierra's voice-agent technology with human-empathy principles and patient-experience best practices. A digital application portal helps patients provide information and complete applications, while onsite financial assistance experts offer screening, counseling, documentation support and hands-on help.
Ensemble is also helping health systems prepare for new Medicaid work requirements through targeted patient outreach, deadline reminders and educational resources that explain reporting and documentation requirements. The company said most adults enrolled through Medicaid expansion will be required to renew their eligibility every six months rather than annually beginning January 1, 2027, and comply with changing work requirements.
"Helping eligible patients maintain insurance coverage is critical because even a temporary loss can delay care, disrupt treatment and create financial hardship for patients and providers," said Jim Gaffney, Ensemble's Chief Strategy Officer. "Too often, patients lose coverage because of process barriers rather than true ineligibility."
Steve Hammond, Ensemble's President, said: "We're helping nearly 50,000 patients identify coverage options each month, which means greater access to care and more financial stability for families."
Ensemble's Scale and Partnerships
Ensemble manages end-to-end revenue cycle operations for more than 35 health systems nationwide, according to akta.pro company records. The company serves 37 or more health systems as of mid-2026 and manages $46 billion or more in annual net patient revenue across its client base. Ensemble has partnered with Cohere to build a revenue cycle management-native large language model purpose-trained on healthcare revenue cycle data, and with Solventum to develop AI-driven autonomous inpatient coding solutions. It also has a deep EHR integration partnership with Epic Systems.
Ensemble's Recent Partnership Activity
In October 2026, Ensemble and Grady Health System announced a strategic partnership to manage Grady's revenue cycle operations end-to-end, with Ensemble handling day-to-day operations while Grady retains oversight, supported by Ensemble's EIQ intelligence engine, according to GlobeNewswire. In September 2026, Ensemble and Penelope Health announced a strategic partnership to integrate real-time payer policy intelligence into Ensemble's revenue cycle operations, according to FinancialContent Business Page. In June 2026, Thoreau, a healthcare investment platform founded by former New Mountain Capital executive Matt Holt, made a strategic growth investment in Ensemble, with existing investors Berkshire Partners, Warburg Pincus and Bon Secours Mercy Health continuing as investors alongside Thoreau, according to FierceHealthcare.
