Sinopec's Five-Year Africa Report and WE17 Launch

China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, known as Sinopec, is a Chinese energy and chemicals company listed in Hong Kong. The report states that total tax payments and social responsibility contributions in Africa surpassed $4 billion over the same period, and that operations directly created 16,000 local jobs in 2025.

Wei Dong, Managing Director of Sinopec Africa Office, presented the report and reaffirmed the company's commitment to leveraging its integrated industrial capabilities, increasing investment in quality resources, and balancing economic performance with ecological protection and community well-being. "Sinopec will continue to participate in Africa's industrialization and public service development," Wei said, according to the release.

The report documents oil and gas exploration, engineering services, refining, energy trade and renewable energy. Sinopec is exploring wind and solar alternatives for oilfield operations in Egypt's Western Desert through its partnership with Apache Corp. At the Sinopec-Apache project in Egypt, gas flaring had been reduced by more than 60% by the end of 2025 through energy efficiency and gas recovery measures.

Sinopec also introduced WE17, a global sustainability communication brand under the slogan "Together for Better." The brand is aligned with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals and focuses on three themes: Clean, Care and Culture. Approximately 100 representatives from government, business, academia and the media attended the event.
