Wealthsimple's Client Base and New Accounts

Wealthsimple, a Toronto-based fintech founded in 2014, offers chequing, managed investing, self-directed trading, credit and tax filing to Canadian retail customers, families and small businesses, according to company records. The client count of 3.8 million excludes tax filers. The company said one in four Canadians aged 18 to 40 and one in nine Canadians aged 41 to 55 use at least one Wealthsimple product.

Wealthsimple launched its first product for Canadians under 18: kids and teens chequing, which the company described as the first kids account in Canada to offer parent-paid interest. "I've always believed the best way to learn about money is hands-on, and the earlier the better," said Mike Katchen, co-founder and CEO. "With our kids and teens account, kids get a fun way to engage with their money and experience the power of compound interest, and parents get a safe, convenient way to keep tabs."

The company said it serves more than 30,000 Canadian businesses through its business chequing and investing products. Wealthsimple launched Business Chequing in May 2026 and in September enabled business owners to spend directly from their account with the Prepaid Business Visa, which offers unlimited 1% cash back, no FX fees and free ATM withdrawals worldwide.
