The Indian Hotels Company Limited and Bahrain-based Kingdom Projects announced three developments in Bahrain representing a combined investment of $100 million, bringing the Taj brand to the country for the first time. TradingView carried the announcement, made at the fourth edition of Gateway Gulf on November 1-2, 2026.

Taj Hotel Downtown Seef Leads Three Bahrain Projects

Taj Group of Hotels is the flagship luxury brand of IHCL, part of the Tata Group, and operates more than 100 luxury hotels, palaces, resorts and safaris across India and international markets. The Bahrain agreement covers hospitality, dining and retail, with Kingdom Projects serving as the exclusive partner of the Taj Group in Bahrain.

The flagship development, Taj Hotel Downtown Seef, is a 200-key hotel with 80 branded residences that is expected to begin construction shortly. Interior fit-out works are underway at Bombay Brasserie in Bahrain Bay, with the restaurant scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027. Hamleys, owned by Reliance Retail, will open a flagship showroom at The Avenues Bahrain, also targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

The announcement took place in the presence of Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board, and Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism. The forum was hosted by Bahrain EDB at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay under the theme "Reimagining Global Partnerships, Powering Sustainable Growth." Bahrain EDB has worked with Kingdom Projects across its development portfolio, supporting its investment plans and facilitating engagement with key stakeholders.

Alkhulaif said: "Kingdom Projects' investments reflect the continued confidence investors place in Bahrain as a trusted destination for high-quality, long-term investment."

Taj's Earlier Expansion Moves

According to akta.pro company records, IHCL signed a greenfield 500-key Taj hotel project in Patna, Bihar, in March 2026, opposite Gandhi Maidan with views of the River Ganges and more than 16,000 square feet of banqueting space. The same records show Egypt signed a management and operation agreement with Taj Hotels on December 21, 2025, to restore and reopen the historic Continental Hotel in downtown Cairo.

Taj's Recent International Openings

Taj Hotels opened Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt in Germany and Taj Bush Lodge in Greater Kruger, South Africa, in June 2026, according to Travelweekly. The Frankfurt property is a 126-key hotel with Indian dining and a spa, while the lodge is the first of three in the park. In August 2026, IHCL began returning staff to its Dubai properties as occupancy rates stabilized following disruptions from the U.S.-Iran conflict, Skift reported.

What Comes Next for the Bahrain Projects

Bombay Brasserie and the Hamleys showroom at The Avenues Bahrain are both scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027. Construction on Taj Hotel Downtown Seef is expected to begin shortly, and Kingdom Projects is working on a wider pipeline of developments with IHCL, with further projects expected to follow.
