Bosch Home Comfort Group plans to launch Bosch-branded air conditioners in India next year and is targeting a double-digit market share within two years, Managing Director Sanjay Sudhakaran said. The company will invest 80 million euros, around Rs 900 crore, over the next few years to expand manufacturing capacity, increase localisation and strengthen engineering and testing capabilities, Business Standard reported.

Bosch's Dual-Brand Push Into Indian Cooling

Bosch Home Comfort Group, part of German engineering major Bosch GmbH, is accelerating its India expansion through a dual-brand approach. It positions Hitachi in the mainstream and mass-premium segments and Bosch in the performance-premium and super-premium categories. The company acquired the global residential and light-commercial air-conditioning business of Johnson Controls and Hitachi in August 2025 and took over Hitachi's air-conditioning business in India.

"We will position Bosch as a super-premium category and Hitachi as a mainstream category," Sudhakaran said, adding that both brands would have differentiated product portfolios, features and value propositions. Bosch-branded ACs will be priced at around Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000 and above, competing with brands such as O General and Mitsubishi Electric.

The investment will support expansion into light-commercial air conditioning products, including variable refrigerant flow systems under the Hitachi brand. The company manufactures the latest range of Hitachi VRF products at its Kadi facility in Gujarat, where it has an annual manufacturing capacity of more than 10 lakh air conditioning units, and has expanded its global research and development centre in Ahmedabad.

Sudhakaran said around 75 per cent of the company's procurement was from domestic sources, while imports accounted for approximately 25 per cent. "What we import today is what is not available in the country," he said. Bosch Home Comfort India will leverage its existing Hitachi distribution and retail network and plans to work with the Bosch home appliances business to make Bosch-branded air conditioners available through Bosch and BSH-branded stores.

Earlier Steps Toward the India Goal

In August 2026, CEO Jan Brockmann said Bosch Home Comfort Group is executing a strategic expansion in India with the goal of moving the country from a top-eight to a top-three global market by 2030, Fortune India reported. That month, Bosch Home Comfort India Ltd reported a profit of 227.9 million rupees for the June quarter, AInvest reported. In June 2026, Bosch Home Comfort Group and Hitachi Group agreed to collaborate on "HMAX for Buildings," a building management solution combining commercial HVAC domain knowledge with AI for facilities such as office buildings, hospitals and factories, Hitachi reported.

Rivals Expand Manufacturing Capacity

What Comes Next for Bosch

Sudhakaran said the company may explore setting up a new manufacturing facility in southern India but neither confirmed nor denied that Bosch Home Comfort was considering such a move. The company also aims to become one of the country's top five cooling and comfort brands in the medium term.
