Delta Air Lines Drops Apple Messages Support, Pushes Travelers to AI Concierge in Its App

Key takeaways

  • Delta Air Lines discontinued customer support through Apple Messages and now directs travelers to its app.
  • Delta Concierge, the airline's AI-powered assistant, became available to every SkyMiles member in July.
  • Delta said app conversations remain available for 24 hours, while Apple Messages kept exchanges available indefinitely.

Delta Air Lines has discontinued customer support through Apple Messages and now points travelers to its app, which has introduced the AI-powered Delta Concierge. The Cool Down reported the change, citing Inc., and one customer described spending two days trying to get help after chat sessions expired and notifications failed to alert them to agent replies.

Delta's Shift From Apple Messages To Its App

Customers had been able to use Apple Messages for support without opening Delta's app, and that option is no longer available. Chat sessions had already expired when one customer discovered agents' replies, according to a Reddit account cited by Inc., and the customer said the app had not reliably alerted them to those responses. Other travelers also expressed frustration at losing the familiar service.

"Noooooo. Idk why they would do this — having support right in iMessage was so convenient," one Reddit commenter wrote, as quoted by Inc.

Delta adopted Apple's Business Chat in 2019 to reach customers through channels they already used, Inc. reported, and support exchanges stayed alongside travelers' ordinary text messages. Inc. writer Jason Aten, a longtime Diamond Medallion traveler, described Messages as particularly useful for customers who needed to pause a support exchange and pick it up again later, and he beta-tested an earlier version of Concierge and found it fell short of what Messages offered. Two representatives handling an app conversation needed an explanation of Global Upgrade Certificates from a Diamond Medallion customer, according to that customer's Reddit account cited by Inc.

Cancellations of qualifying flights, rebooking assistance, luggage tracking, and answers to reservation questions are among Concierge's capabilities, according to Delta, and Inc. reported that the airline made the assistant available to every SkyMiles member in July. A Delta spokesperson told Inc. that the airline aims to deliver "the richest service experience possible within the channels where customers are already managing their travel. Delta Concierge provides a more advanced, personalized way for customers to get answers and manage common travel needs directly in the Delta app, with seamless escalation to a live representative when needed." Delta also said human help remains available whenever travelers need it and that more customer interactions are taking place in its app, and it said app conversations remain available for 24 hours, compared to Apple Messages, which kept exchanges available indefinitely.

Delta's Scale Behind The App Push

Delta Air Lines, according to akta.pro company records, reported record full-year 2025 revenue of $58.3 billion, with approximately 60% derived from premium cabins, loyalty programs, and cargo rather than traditional coach tickets. The same records show Q1 2026 revenue of $14.2 billion, up 9.4% year-over-year, according to Jefferies analysis. Delta's leadership includes Chief Executive Officer Edward (Ed) Bastian and E.V.P. and Chief Customer Experience Officer Allison Ausband.

Earlier Delta Customer And Route Moves

Delta launched the SkyMiles Wine Takes Flight program, letting eligible SkyMiles members check a case of up to 12 standard bottles of wine for free from five Northern California airports, Forbes reported in October 2026. Delta is also offering award flights in Delta One for as low as 230,000 SkyMiles plus taxes and fees when booked by Oct. 29, 2026, Yahoo reported that month, covering several international routes with prices ranging from 230,000 to 276,000 miles. In October 2026, Delta onboarded 66 new pilots on October 20, including 16 former Spirit Airlines crew, Simpleflying reported.
