Nike will sell its Apex racing shoe for £319.99 from January 2027, the company's latest top-tier road racing option. Yahoo reported the price and availability, and said the shoe is marketed as a superior option to the Alphafly 4.
What the Nike Apex Puts Underfoot
The Apex carries a carbon-fibre plate, as do other top racing shoes, and adds two double-stacked Air Zoom units. Yahoo described the air pockets as thought to add propulsion off the asphalt in road races. Nike's own site lists the brand's running range.
US marathoner Charles Hicks, who has a personal best of 2:04:35, described the ride to the Independent. "The Apex is crazy," Hicks said. "And I loved the Alphafly 2, but the No 1 thing you get out of it is the responsiveness, it felt like I was able to fly in it, kind of like the Alphafly when it first came out, but I've never felt as bouncy in a shoe."
US marathon record holder Connor Mantz told Citius Mag he will race in the Apex in New York. "It was incredible, a lot of people mention it's a one marathon shoe, but it still looks pretty new and has about 50 miles on it, I was impressed by how well it held up," Mantz said. "I'll be racing in it. I heard Galen [Rupp] loved it [at Chicago Marathon 2026], he really, really liked it."
Yahoo reported that Adidas took over the super-shoe lead with its Adizero Adios Pro EVO 3, which helped Sabastian Sawe become the first sub-two-hour marathoner at this year's London Marathon. The Adidas shoe will retail at £450, Yahoo reported. Channel NewsAsia reported that Adidas is targeting the New York City Marathon to build on eight World Marathon Majors wins, which lifted its Running sector revenue by 19% in the third quarter, and that Nike has posted six consecutive quarters of double-digit growth in running.
