Caroline's Cart, a patented shopping cart for older children and adults with disabilities, is now available at Walmart Toreo, store 2344, in Mexico City, according to EIN Presswire. The cart's forward-facing seat holds up to 250 pounds, so the person being cared for rides while the caregiver shops.
How the Walmart Toreo Cart Works
Drew Ann Long, the cart's founder, designed it for her daughter Caroline, who has Rett syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that severely limits her ability to walk and talk. Long turned a 2011 prototype into a patented product manufactured by Wanzl. Without such a cart, the announcement said, many parents push a wheelchair with one hand and pull a grocery cart with the other, or skip the trip altogether.
"When I sketched this cart on a napkin, I was a mom trying to take my daughter to the grocery store. Seeing it in Mexico City, chosen by local families and a local store, tells me this need has no borders," Long said. She added that her hope is that every family in Latin America who needs a cart can find one close to home.
Caroline's Cart is in more than 15,000 stores across all 50 U.S. states and eight countries, at retailers including Walmart, Target, Kroger, Publix and Lowe's. Long encourages families who want a cart in their local store to ask the store manager directly, since many locations have added the carts after customer requests.

Walmart México's Recent Store Investments
Walmart de México y Centroamérica held its 2026 Regeneration Summit, presenting ESG progress and inviting business collaboration, El Financiero reported in September 2026. In 2025, the company reintegrated 82.9% of materials, recycling over 325,000 tons of cardboard and plastic and diverting 43,000 tons of organic waste. In August 2026, Expansion reported that Walmart operates 3,316 stores in Mexico as of the end of 2025, using a multi-format strategy that includes Bodega Aurrera, Walmart Supercenter, Sam's Club and Walmart Express.
