Yokogawa Engineering Asia has been awarded S$4.2 million under the Singapore Energy Market Authority's Energy Grid 3.0 Grant Call, as part of EMA's Future Grid Capabilities Roadmap. PR Newswire APAC published the award on October 28, 2026. The grant funds a project titled "Distributed Inertia Provision from Conventional and Inverter Interfaced Assets."
Yokogawa's Waste-to-Energy Grid Stability Project
The project will explore how industrial and distributed energy assets can support stability, decarbonization and economic efficiency of the next-generation electricity grid. Yokogawa leads a demonstration at a waste-to-energy plant for grid stability services in Singapore, working with the National University of Singapore, the Singapore Institute of Technology and Rexus Bioenergy Pte Ltd. The company said the project will study how existing industrial sites, such as process manufacturing plants, and modern infrastructure including data centers can provide grid support services while continuing their primary operations.
The Advanced Energy and Decarbonisation Office, a national platform hosted by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, administers the grant following the transfer of grant administration responsibilities from EMA on August 1, 2026. John Chen, Executive Director of AEDO, said: "Addressing Singapore's energy challenges requires close collaboration between industry and the research community to develop solutions that can be deployed in real-world settings." Eugene Toh, Assistant Chief Executive (Energy Technologies) of EMA, said the grant call supports research and innovation to address emerging grid challenges.
The project will integrate the Convera Power Plant Controller by BaxEnergy, A Yokogawa Company, with Yokogawa's OpreX Collaborative Information Server. According to Yokogawa Engineering Asia, the Convera controller enables real-time orchestration across multiple technologies and energy resources, while the CI Server aggregates operational data across multiple systems in a single operating environment. The award marks a milestone for Yokogawa's Sustainability Incubation Hub, launched in 2024 in Singapore. Chay Kin Wah, President and CEO of Yokogawa Engineering Asia, said: "The vision of Yokogawa's Sustainability Incubation Hub is to bridge innovation and implementation by bringing together industry, academia, and public-sector partners to address complex sustainability challenges."
The power industry accounts for about 40% of Singapore's emissions, and the country targets net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Chay said the partners aim to create a more resilient, sustainable solution for Singapore's future energy system and scalable solutions for the wider Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Taiwan region.
AEDO's August 2026 Grant Handover
The Advanced Energy and Decarbonisation Office took over administration of the grant from EMA on August 1, 2026. The office is hosted by A*STAR.
