Siemens has completed its acquisition of key businesses of Italy-based MERMEC Group, adding them to Siemens Mobility after receiving all required regulatory approvals. Construction Mirror reported the closing on November 4, 2026. The acquired businesses generated approximately €430 million in revenue in FY2025 and employ around 1,700 people.
Siemens is a Munich-headquartered industrial technology conglomerate founded in 1847 that sells industrial software, automation hardware, rail systems and smart infrastructure equipment. MERMEC Group is an Italy-based railway technology company whose businesses span signalling, electrification, diagnostics and measurement.
What Siemens Mobility Gained From MERMEC
The transaction was initially announced in May 2026. The acquisition covers MERMEC's businesses in Italian wayside signalling, electrification, telecommunications, diagnostics, analytics and worldwide data infrastructure.
The deal excludes the group's investments in Angelstar S.r.l., Mont Saint Michel S.A.S. and its subsidiary Compagnie des Signaux S.A.S., along with CSEE DE, formerly known as MERMEC Deutschland, which remains with Angelo Holding.
The acquired businesses serve customers in more than 70 countries. Their employees, operating sites and industrial capabilities, including the Ferrosud facility in Matera, will become part of Siemens Mobility's global innovation network.
Michael Peter, President of Siemens Mobility, said the addition of MERMEC's businesses and employees marks an important milestone in strengthening the company's global rail technology portfolio. He added that combining the capabilities in signalling, diagnostics and asset intelligence would expand the solutions available to customers worldwide while increasing Siemens Mobility's industrial footprint in Italy.
The integration will combine Siemens' expertise in urban signalling and asset intelligence with MERMEC's presence in mainline railway infrastructure and its portfolio of diagnostic vehicles, measurement systems and inspection software. The combined capabilities are expected to provide railway operators with an expanded range of infrastructure monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions.
