Toufayan Bakeries Rolls Out Simply Sourdough Pita, a National-Brand First

Toufayan Bakeries introduced Simply Sourdough, a line of hearth-baked pita made with natural sourdough fermentation, on November 3, 2026. The Ridgefield, New Jersey-based bakery said the line is the only sourdough pita offered by a national brand and is rolling out at major retailers nationwide, according to PR Newswire.

Inside Toufayan's Simply Sourdough Line

Simply Sourdough applies the family's original sourdough method to pita, giving it a soft texture and a natural pocket for fillings. The breads are preservative-free, non-GMO, vegan and certified kosher pareve. The line comes in three formats: Hearth Baked Pita (4 count, 14.1 oz), Mini Pita (6 count, pre-sliced, 14.8 oz) and Pita Bites (20 pita slices, 7.05 oz).

Karen Toufayan, Vice President of Marketing, tied the launch to the company's history. "Simply Sourdough isn't a response to a trend, it's a return to our roots," she said. "Our grandfather built this business 100 years ago by nurturing natural sourdough starters made from just flour and water." She added that the company is "proud to share that timeless approach with a new generation of consumers looking for simple ingredients and restaurant quality bread at home."

Toufayan cited Circana data showing sourdough bread unit sales up 30% year over year. Mintel's 2025 U.S. Packaged Bread Report found consumers increasingly associate sourdough with ingredient simplicity and digestive wellness, the company said.

Toufayan's Recent Product and Partnership Moves
