Expedient has acquired the U.S. managed VMware cloud business of phoenixNAP, including its Veeam-based backup and disaster recovery as a service business, the companies said in a PR Newswire announcement dated November 3, 2026. Terms were not disclosed.
Expedient is a Pittsburgh-based cloud service provider that delivers managed infrastructure, including VMware and Nutanix private cloud, disaster recovery and AI services. phoenixNAP is a Phoenix-based global IT services provider specializing in infrastructure-as-a-service through edge facilities worldwide.
What Expedient Gains From phoenixNAP
The transaction covers phoenixNAP's managed VMware cloud services and Veeam-based DRaaS business, serving U.S. clients from phoenixNAP facilities in Phoenix, Arizona, and Ashburn, Virginia. The deal is limited to phoenixNAP's managed VMware cloud business in the United States.
Expedient said the acquisition expands its VMware Cloud Foundation business as VMware customers face a series of deadlines. As Broadcom consolidates its VMware Cloud Service Provider program, contracts for providers that are not renewing, including phoenixNAP, will end in March 2027.
"For phoenixNAP clients, nothing about how their business runs has to change on day one," said Bryan Smith, CEO of Expedient. "They keep their VMware environments and the engineers who know them, now backed by a team that has managed VMware for clients for more than 20 years."
At close, phoenixNAP clients keep their current environments, service levels, consoles and support engineers. Expedient's Pinnacle tier VCSP status allows clients' VMware Cloud Foundation environments to remain fully licensed and supported, with no action required on their part. Over the coming months, Expedient will work with each organization on a long-term plan to bring its environment onto the Expedient Cloud platform at a pace the client sets. No workloads, networks or IP addresses will move without a plan agreed with the client in advance.
"This transaction lets phoenixNAP focus fully on our Bare Metal Cloud platform and global network, while our managed VMware clients gain a long-term home with a partner dedicated to VMware," said Ian McClarty, President of phoenixNAP.
Expedient's VMware Bridge Program
According to akta.pro company records, Expedient launched its Bridge Program in April 2026 to capture VMware customer workloads displaced by Broadcom's October 2025 white-label sunset and March 2027 VCSP contract expirations, offering compliance evaluation and a contractual destination across 14 U.S. data centers. The same records list more than 1,300 clients and a 99% client retention rate.
Earlier Expedient Moves
In August 2026, Expedient said it was addressing the "IT trilemma" of VMware ecosystem changes, rising hardware costs and AI strategy pressures through its Intelligent Infrastructure approach, Tmcnet reported. In May 2026, Starr Holding Company migrated its core infrastructure to Expedient's private cloud, decommissioning a 25-year-old hardware environment, with the initial phase moving Auctiva and Vendio, EIN Presswire reported.
phoenixNAP's Bare Metal Cloud Focus
phoenixNAP continues to operate its Bare Metal Cloud platform, dedicated servers, global network and infrastructure services. Expedient said its sales grew more than 40% over the past 12 months.
