Port Everglades is eyeing $1.7 billion in potential cruise-related investments over the next 20 years to modernize infrastructure and improve passenger experiences, CEO and port director Joseph Morris said. Morris outlined the long-term vision in a conversation with Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association President Adam Ceserano on the FCCA Leadership Series, EIN Presswire reported on October 30, 2026.

Morris Details Terminal and Wharf Projects

Port Everglades is a self-supporting Broward County seaport operating cruise, container cargo and petroleum distribution businesses, and the world's third-busiest cruise homeport. The potential projects Morris described include cruise terminal modernization, reconstruction of an older terminal, improvements to wharves and berthing facilities, upgraded passenger loading bridges, parking garages and roadway enhancements.

Morris said the investments would help the port respond to changing cruise itineraries, particularly the growth of private island destinations and shorter voyages that generate more frequent vessel turnarounds. Those trends, he said, are increasing demand for parking and requiring more efficient management of passenger and traffic flows. He pointed to Port Everglades' proximity to the Caribbean, organizational culture and customer service as competitive advantages.

"We're a landlord port, yes, but we are in the service industry," Morris said. He also stressed industry relationships: "At the end of the day, our business is about the ships. It's about the relationships, it's about the partnerships, and it's about the friendships."

Port Everglades' Recent Investment Record

According to akta.pro company records, Port Everglades began a $152.2 million bulkhead replacement program in September 2025, replacing 1950s-era seawalls to enable larger vessels and improve hurricane and sea-level resilience. In March 2026 the port completed its first-ever LNG shore-to-ship bunkering operation, fueling the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's Ilma via Sawgrass LNG & Power and REV, establishing a new alternative-fuels revenue line. The same records show a May 2025 10-year Marine Terminal Lease and Operating Agreement with Everglades Company Terminal, an MSC subsidiary, through 2034, projected to generate over $161 million in annual business revenue and 425 direct jobs.

Record Cruise Season Precedes the Plan

Port Everglades welcomed over 5.38 million cruise guests in FY2026, a record for the third consecutive year, Maritime-executive reported in October 2026. In July 2026, Mediterranean Shipping Company's Empire Service made its inaugural call at the port, restoring a direct container shipping connection between Port Everglades and Asia, according to Porttechnology.

What Comes Next for the Cruise Plan

The FCCA Leadership Series conversation with Morris and Ceserano is available to watch online. No approval or construction dates for the potential projects were given.
