Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal said the food delivery app will add a "mehmaan mode" this week, after a LinkedIn user proposed a setting that hides prices so hosts can pass their phone to guests. NDTV Profit reported Goyal's reply to the post.
How the Mehmaan Mode Suggestion Worked
Ayushmaan Agarwalla, a marketing manager at Itu Chaudhuri Design, tagged Goyal in a post titled "Mehmaan Mode on Zomato". He called it "a small feature recommendation" and wrote that Zomato "should have a simple 'mehmaan mode'". In the post, he described a setting that hides prices so a host can pass the phone around and let guests choose what they want without discomfort, then take the phone back and make the payment.
Agarwalla said he had seen the practice of passing a phone around to place orders becoming more common. He summed up the benefit as "No price, no embarrassment and no hesitation", adding that the feature would be especially useful in the festive season, when homes tend to fill with visitors.
Goyal replied under the post. "Thanks for the suggestion. Shipping it this week," he wrote, closing by wishing Agarwalla "the happiest festive season". Neither the post nor the reply gave details of how the feature would work, or whether it would be switched on by the host or the guest.
Goyal founded Zomato in 2008 and led its parent company, Eternal, as group chief executive for nearly 18 years. He stepped down from the role on February 1 and remains on the board as vice chairman. Blinkit co-founder Albinder Dhindsa took over as Eternal's group CEO.
Zomato's Scale and Earlier Feature Launches
Zomato operates in 800+ cities with 300,000+ restaurant partners listed on the platform, according to akta.pro company records. The same records list cumulative orders delivered since its 2008 founding at 3 billion+.
In May 2026, Zomato launched a Healthy Subscriptions feature in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru, offering 3/5/15-day meal plans with AI-generated nutritional scoring at about Rs 250 per meal, the same records show.
Earlier Zomato Campaigns and Features
On October 27, 2026, Zomato launched a street-level marketing campaign using Saif Ali Khan's viral ghee meme, with delivery bags carrying puns such as "Extra ghee just to be Saif", Gadgets 360 reported. The campaign played on his Kaun Banega Crorepati win of a two-year ghee supply.
On October 26, 2026, Zomato's District platform moved toward owning or partnering with physical concert venues to reduce staging costs and defend against AI agents, Whalesbook reported. On October 21, 2026, Goyal said Zomato and Blinkit are well-positioned against AI agent disruption because their value lies in complex fulfilment infrastructure, Business Today reported.
