Illumia and HID Expand Partnership to Bring Mobile Credentials to IDX Cloud Platform

By ·

Key takeaways

  • Illumia and HID expanded their partnership to add HID mobile credential support to IDX, Illumia's cloud platform.
  • CS Gold customers adopting HID mobile credentials can migrate those credentials to IDX later.
  • Illumia's 2025 Higher Ed Innovation Index found 80% of institutions planned full core-system cloud migration within 24 months.

Illumia and HID expanded their partnership to extend HID mobile credential support to IDX, Illumia's cloud platform, building on existing support for CS Gold, the on-premises campus card system. Securityinfowatch reported the agreement on October 29, 2026.

How the IDX Mobile Credential Support Works

The expansion lets CS Gold customers who adopt HID mobile credentials migrate those credentials to IDX later. Institutions with compatible HID readers already installed can keep that equipment as they move to IDX, which the company said reduces the cost, complexity and disruption of adopting mobile credentials. The agreement also separates campus card platform upgrades from physical access infrastructure replacements.

Don Smith, senior vice president and general manager of higher education at Illumia, said: "Campus technology rarely changes all at once." He added that the expanded HID partnership "gives schools more options to cost effectively adopt mobile credentials today with Illumia's IDX and CS Gold platforms while giving them the flexibility to move to the cloud on their own timeline."

Daniel Gundlach, vice president of physical access control solutions for North America at HID Global, said: "Door access infrastructure is built to last, and campuses need technology that works with what they already have." He said extending HID mobile credential support to IDX keeps the ecosystem supporting existing readers while expanding how institutions deliver mobile-first access.

Illumia's Scale Behind the HID Agreement

According to akta.pro company records, more than 10,000 higher education, healthcare and senior living institutions depend on Illumia systems daily. The same records show Roper Technologies acquired Transact Campus for $1.5 billion in August 2024 and merged it with CBORD, with projected revenue of $325 million in 2025. Transact and CBORD rebranded as Illumia, with a legal name change filed in Delaware on March 3, 2026.

Earlier Illumia and HID Steps

Illumia and HID expanded their partnership on October 21, 2026, to bring HID mobile credential support to IDX and allow CS Gold customers to migrate mobile credentials, Stock Titan reported. Illumia appointed Don Smith on September 15, 2026, as senior vice president and general manager of its higher education portfolio, centralizing leadership across payments, identity, commerce and foodservice, Stock Titan reported. On August 19, 2026, Illumia announced that participating colleges and universities could accept tuition and fee payments using PayPal or Venmo through their existing payment portals, Stock Titan reported.

Cloud Migration Findings and HID's Australian Recognition

Illumia's 2025 Higher Ed Innovation Index, developed with Hanover Research, found that 80% of institutions planned to fully migrate their core systems to the cloud within 24 months. HID won two Australian security industry awards for its mobile access product and sustainability efforts, SecurityBrief Australia reported, including a deployment at 101 Collins Street in Melbourne where mobile adoption reached 70% within three months.
