Western Microsurgical acquired Q Surgical and Proficient Surgical, extending its surgical microscope sales and service to 18 states, the company said in a PR Newswire announcement dated October 27, 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Western Microsurgical, based in Denver, is an independent manufacturer's representative and independent service organization for Leica Microsystems, supporting surgical microscopy used in spine, neurological and ophthalmic procedures at hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and specialty clinics. Q Surgical, founded in 2009, serves hospitals and ASCs in Northern California and Nevada, while Proficient Surgical, founded in 1996, serves the Northeast.

What the Q Surgical and Proficient Surgical Deals Include

Western Microsurgical is a portfolio company of HealthEdge Investment Partners, a private equity firm founded in 2005 that focuses exclusively on healthcare. The company said the two acquisitions bring together established regional businesses to expand its platform as an independent service organization and provider of surgical microscopes, operating room products and supplies.

Both targets bring longstanding relationships with surgical teams and leading manufacturers, along with expertise in surgical microscopy and complementary operating room products, according to the announcement. Western Microsurgical also expanded its territory through the transfer of the Leica Microsystems sales and service contract previously held by Shawnee Medical in two states.

The owners of Q Surgical and Proficient Surgical have retained meaningful ownership in the combined company and remain actively involved in its operations, the company said. Brian Bedrick, founder and CEO of Western Microsurgical, said: "We are excited to partner with their owners and teams to build on those strengths."

Will Aarsheim, co-founder of Q Surgical, said partnering with Western Microsurgical is "an exciting next step" for his company and that its team looks forward to remaining involved as owners. Steven Baum, founder of Proficient Surgical, said remaining invested in the combined company allows its team to help shape its future while continuing to support the hospitals and surgical teams it has served.

The acquisitions advance Western Microsurgical's strategy of building a national surgical microscopy platform through partnerships with experienced operators, the company said.

HealthEdge's Operating Partner Addition

HealthEdge Investment Partners said on October 16, 2026 that Todd Cooper joined the firm as Operating Partner, working with the investment team and portfolio companies, PR Newswire reported. Cooper previously served as Lead Director at Alatus Solutions, Custom Protect Ear and Veridian Healthcare.
