Verizon has appointed Christina Schelling as executive vice president and chief people officer, effective immediately, the company said. She will lead Verizon's global people strategy, integrating talent, technology and culture to support business performance and enterprise transformation. Hrtoday reported the appointment, which was announced by Verizon chief executive officer Dan Schulman.

Schelling's Path From Chief Talent Officer

Schelling has been with Verizon since 2022, most recently as senior vice president, human resources, where she led people and organisational priorities across global businesses and corporate functions. Previously, as chief talent officer, she led a team of more than 1,000 HR professionals and oversaw talent acquisition, leadership development, succession planning, performance management and organisational culture.

Schelling worked on AI Unlocked, an initiative designed to accelerate AI fluency and adoption across the enterprise. Before joining Verizon, she held senior HR leadership roles at The Estée Lauder Companies, where she shaped people strategy for global corporate functions and supported Future of Work and organisational transformation initiatives. Her earlier career included approximately six years at Prudential Financial and seven years at American Express, and she worked with IBM in organisational strategy consulting.

Schulman said Schelling's strengths include her understanding of Verizon's business, credibility across leadership teams and commitment to employee experience. "Her leadership in accelerating AI adoption, modernising workforce capabilities and developing a culture that empowers employees to respond effectively to changing customer needs," he said, according to the announcement.

In the role, Schelling will focus on strengthening leadership capabilities, workforce agility, employee experience and organisational effectiveness, while aligning talent priorities with the company's business strategy. Her responsibilities include supporting AI-enabled ways of working and advancing talent development.

Verizon's Technology Team AI Rollout

According to akta.pro company records, Verizon deployed Anthropic's Claude Code agentic coding tool to its entire 33,000-person technology team in June 2026 and joined Project Glasswing, an Anthropic-managed cybersecurity initiative. The same records list 146.9 million wireless customers and $21.5 billion in 2026 free cash flow guidance.

Earlier Verizon Appointments and Moves

Verizon's leadership roster listed by the same records includes Daniel Schulman as chief executive officer, Yago Tenorio as chief technology officer and senior vice president of strategy and technology enablement, Lowell McAdam as chairman of the board and Tony Skiadas as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

In October 2026, Schulman said Starlink would need up to 8 years and $750 billion to compete with Verizon's terrestrial network, citing technical and financial hurdles including building 80,000 cell towers, Business Insider reported. That month Verizon also apologized to customers with delayed iPhone Duo pre-orders and offered a $100 gift card, MacRumors reported.
