Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons' Montgomery Surgery Center Plans
Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons, which has served Central Alabama since 1996, is developing the center to expand access to outpatient total joint replacements and other orthopedic procedures. The facility will include four fully equipped operating rooms, room for two additional ORs, two specialized procedure rooms and robotic-assisted technology for joint replacement. It is designed specifically for orthopedic surgery, with a focus on patient comfort, convenience and efficient care, and will give the practice's physicians additional capacity in the River Region.
The groundbreaking followed an October 9 ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court that cleared the way for the project. Stephen Samelson, MD, an SOS orthopedic surgeon and chair of USOP's board of directors, said: "Partnering with USOP provided SOS with the experienced leadership necessary to navigate the complicated process of attaining the Certificate of Need." Graham Young, Co-CEO of USOP, said the organization's ASC strategy is "central to that vision." USOP supports a network of 10 practices across the Southeast.
Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons' Regional Footprint
According to akta.pro company records, Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons operates four locations across Central Alabama, in Montgomery, Prattville, Wetumpka and Tallassee, plus an Urgent Ortho clinic. The practice performs joint replacement surgeries at The Joint Center of Alabama in Montgomery, a dedicated orthopedic surgical center focused on hip and knee replacement, and performs procedures at Montgomery Surgical Center. In April 2026 it launched a Prattville Extended Hours clinic offering evening and weekend orthopedic care for patients in Prattville, Millbrook and Wetumpka.
USOP's Other Surgery Center Projects
USOP said the Mid State Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center ASC in Alexandria, La., is expected to open in November 2026, and the SportsMED ASC in Huntsville, Ala., is expected to break ground later this year. USOP also appointed Dean Brown, MBA, CASC, CMPE, as Regional Director of ASC Operations, supporting performance improvement at existing centers and helping guide new development, including Mid State's opening.
