Morrisons is a finalist at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards, with winners announced at a ceremony at The HAC in Central London on November 4. The UK grocery retailer was shortlisted for AI-powered Caper Carts from Instacart, digital Bluetooth probing across 475 Oven Fresh counters, a Pick to Light system in 200 stores, and its Everseen roll-out, Retail Technology Innovation Hub reported.

Morrisons Trials Instacart Carts and Everseen

Morrisons is trialling AI-powered Caper Carts from Instacart for an autonomous checkout process. For that project, Morrisons built a bespoke, interim integration bridge to align the technology with legacy systems before its new Emerald PoS roll-out. Instacart is in talks for a sale, Reuters reported on October 23, with the company valued at roughly $12 billion and no deal guaranteed.

The retailer's Everseen roll-out supported front-end efficiency and made improvements into loss recovery. That roll-out created an integration between numerous technology systems before a full operational reset and training process to support. Everseen works with retailers including Coles and Kroger, and was recommended by Morrisons, Retail Week reported on October 16.

Morrisons deployed digital Bluetooth probing across its Oven Fresh departments to automate food safety checks. All 475 Oven Fresh counters transitioned to continuous temperature monitoring and instant alarm triggers, allowing Morrisons to improve merchandising guidelines. The retailer rolled out a Pick to Light system using digital shelf edge labels to guide online pickers, reaching 200 stores and continuing, with an increase in UPH supported by deploying regional specialists to demonstrate execution standards.

Morrisons' Scale and Funding Records

Morrisons is the UK's fifth-largest grocery retailer, operating around 500 supermarkets, a franchised convenience network, online delivery, and adjacent travel and pharmacy services under private equity owner Clayton Dubilier & Rice, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show Morrisons' market share has declined from 9.5% to 8.3% under private equity ownership, losing ground to discount rivals Aldi and Lidl. Lidl GB overtook Morrisons to become the UK's fifth-largest supermarket with 8.8% sales growth year-on-year and 8.6% market share. Morrisons' funding records list one round, a debt-funded $1.3 billion round in July 2025.

Earlier Morrisons Technology and Product Moves

Morrisons updated its More Card app in October 2026 to deliver hyper-personalized product-level offers and a shopping list builder, The Grocer reported. The update gives six weekly tailored offers with discounts or extra points, and includes a barcode scanner to add items to the list.

Shepherds Purse, a North Yorkshire cheesemaker, secured an expanded Morrisons listing with its Harrogate Blue and Yorkshire Blue cheeses in new 150g packs, Insider Media reported in October 2026. The retailer will stock the cheeses in over 300 stores, marking the first nationwide launch of the new format.

BLOODY Drinks launched its flagship Bloody Mary in 360 Morrisons stores in October 2026, EIN Presswire reported, expanding its grocery footprint to include Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Co-op, and Ocado.
