Torrent Pharmaceuticals plans to launch semaglutide in Brazil within six to nine months, Managing Director Aman Mehta said, after Brazil revenues rose 38 per cent to ₹440 crore in the September quarter. The drugmaker has launched the GLP-1 receptor agonist, used to treat Type 2 diabetes and, in certain formulations, obesity, only in India so far. TradingView reported the plan.
Torrent's Brazil Semaglutide Plan
Mehta said a large local player's entry into the generic semaglutide market in Brazil accelerated growth over the past three months. "Optimistically, we expect to launch in the next 6-9 months," he told investors on a recent earnings call.
Brazil revenues in constant currency rose 20 per cent to 236 million Brazilian reais in the second quarter of FY27. Torrent grew 26 per cent during the quarter against market growth of 6 per cent, according to IQVIA, aided by its leading brands and new launches. The company has 53 products under review with Brazil's health regulator, ANVISA.
For the first half of FY27, Brazil revenues rose 34 per cent to ₹717 crore, while constant-currency revenue increased 13 per cent to 383 million Brazilian reais. "Brazil will continue to grow in double digits in the mid-teens range because we have strong momentum from our new launches as well as from other businesses," Mehta said. Torrent operates four business units in Brazil, in cardiovascular and diabetes, central nervous system, generics and non-retail, and all four are performing well, he said.
In India, Torrent is working to regain market share in injectable semaglutide after a supply disruption that kept it out of the market for nearly two months. The company onboarded a new manufacturing partner and restored supplies by September. "On semaglutide, our India franchise recorded Q2 market share of 32 per cent for oral and injectable combined as per the Pharmatrac data set. For the oral segment, we continue to maintain more than 90% share within the generic players," Mehta said.
Torrent's Semaglutide Brands in India
According to akta.pro company records, Torrent launched oral and injectable generic semaglutide brands, Sembolic and Semalix, in March 2026 following patent expiry, capturing 38% market share in India's generic semaglutide segment within one month and becoming the first Indian firm to offer both forms. The same records list a January 2026 acquisition of a controlling stake in J.B. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals from KKR for approximately Rs 12,537 crore, and a Rs 5,000 crore qualified institutional placement in October 2024.
Torrent's Recent Earnings and Leadership Changes
Torrent reported a near 10% drop in second-quarter profit, with net profit falling to 5.34 billion rupees from 5.91 billion a year earlier, Reuters reported on October 23, 2026. The company accepted the resignation of Executive Director Amal Kelshikar effective October 16, 2026, at close of business hours, according to ScanX. Torrent scheduled an analyst call for October 23, 2026, at 5:30 pm IST to discuss Q2FY27 and H1FY27 results, ScanX reported on October 9, 2026.
Torrent's Pricing and Workforce Outlook
Mehta said Torrent expects pricing per patient and per product to remain broadly stable, as it sells semaglutide as a branded business, with prices stable or gradually increasing over the next couple of years. The company does not expect any change from its current medical representative count of around 9,100 this year, and will review potential expansion in the coming months, with the number possibly rising to 9,500-9,600 next year depending on business requirements.
