FireSwarm Solutions, a Canadian developer of dual-use drone swarm technology for fire suppression and critical logistics, was named to Cleantech Group's 2026 Cleantech 50 to Watch on October 19, 2026. GlobeNewswire carried the announcement. The annual list spotlights early-stage companies positioned to shape the next wave of cleantech innovation.
FireSwarm's Place on the Cleantech 50 List
Cleantech Group selected this year's 50 honorees through nominations and votes from its expert panel, and the group spans 12 countries. Canada is the second-most represented country with 11 companies, behind only the U.S. FireSwarm was recognized in the list's extreme heat resilience theme.
Cleantech Group's report notes that while wildfire detection has matured, resilience now depends on better suppression technology at the peak-burn stage. FireSwarm is one of three companies on the list it highlights as ready to address fires once they have broken out. "Being named to the Cleantech 50 to Watch is a strong signal that wildfire suppression is now seen as core climate infrastructure, not just emergency response," said Alex Deslauriers, CEO of FireSwarm Solutions. "Detection tells us where a fire is. The real gap is helping crews act earlier, whether that means supporting mobilization or delivering suppressant, often in conditions too dangerous for crewed aircraft."
Cleantech Group describes a shift from the "green premium" to a "sovereignty premium," with buyers and investors prioritizing energy, supply and climate security. "With certainty, we've exited the days of the green premium," said Anthony DeOrsey, Research Manager at Cleantech Group. "We're now firmly entering the age of the sovereignty premium that is likely to define the late 2020s." Alderbuck Energy, a San Diego-based power infrastructure firm, was named to the same list on October 14, 2026, according to FinancialContent Business Page.
FireSwarm's Wildfire Work Before the List
FireSwarm's technology is designed to work across drone sizes, makes and models, automating swarms matched to each mission. In September 2026, the City of Kelowna, FireSwarm Solutions and Okanagan College announced partnerships to build British Columbia's hub for drone and aerospace innovation, Financial Post reported. In August 2026, FireSwarm said it was deploying autonomous, ultra-heavy-lift drone swarms for wildfire suppression, with AI-powered systems aimed at faster response and night operations. In July 2026, FireSwarm and Strategic Natural Resource Group said they would deploy uncrewed, heavy-lift drones to assist with wildland firefighting.
What Comes Next for FireSwarm
FireSwarm was selected as one of 29 qualified teams for the XPRIZE Wildfire Autonomous Wildfire Response track, with teams sharing a $750,000 milestone prize purse and pilot projects scheduled for fall and winter, the company said in July 2026. Cleantech Group expects 2027 to be the year extreme heat resilience becomes a category of its own.
