The New Indian Express [reported](https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/kerala/2026/Nov/07/farms-to-tables-abroad-cochin-international-airport-ltd-cooks-up-plan) the plan on November 7, 2026.\n\n## Inside the Cochin Airport Packhouse Plan\n\nThe packhouse-cum-logistics park is designed to give farmers across Kerala a single location to prepare produce for market, replacing fragmented collection and packing arrangements. Cold-chain facilities at the site are intended to preserve perishable goods during storage and transit. The project is among the major initiatives under CIAL's Cargo Vision 2030, which aims to turn Kochi into a logistics hub linking air cargo with seaports, railways, roads and inland waterways.\n\nCIAL is also evaluating a cargo community system that would digitally connect airlines, customs, cargo operators, freight forwarders, customs brokers and transporters, with the aim of paperless procedures, real-time cargo tracking and faster information exchange. Mechanised cargo movement systems and specialised equipment are being introduced to reduce manual handling and delays. The airport is additionally looking to connect its cargo operations with Cochin Port and the Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal.\n\nCIAL has developed a transfer cargo security hold and is working with the civil aviation ministry and other regulatory agencies to operationalise the facility. Subject to approvals, Kochi could become the first airport in the country with an integrated transfer cargo facility, allowing cargo from different Indian cities to be consolidated at Kochi before being sent abroad and international cargo to be redistributed to domestic destinations.\n\nThe expansion rests on existing volumes. CIAL handled 72,178 metric tonnes of cargo in 2025-26, nearly 60% of Keralam's air-cargo traffic, with perishable goods contributing more than 30,000 tonnes. The export terminal currently has storage in the 2°C to 8°C and 15°C to +5°C range, and additional sub-zero storage at -18°C is being developed for frozen products. Managing director S Suhas said: \"Kochi has the location, infrastructure and connectivity to emerge as a major logistics gateway for South India.\"\n\n## Prime Fresh and South Valley Build Similar Capacity\n\nOther agricultural aggregation projects have been announced in recent weeks. Prime Fresh Limited was appointed implementing agency for the Nashik Peri-Urban Vegetable Cluster under the Cluster Development Programme, with an estimated investment of ₹124 crore across 10,000 hectares, including 6,000 MT of cold storage and 3,000 MT of frozen storage and targeting 11,000 farmers, [ScanX reported](https://scanx.trade/stock-market-news/companies/prime-fresh-implement-nashik-vegetable-cluster-124-crore-investment/54918214) on October 30, 2026. The Delicious New Mexico Aggregation Center in South Valley was set to open November 2, offering farmers equipment to clean, chop and package crops, [Yahoo reported](https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/south-valley-aggregation-distribution-center-035433505.html) on October 24, 2026.\n\n## Pharmaceutical Facility Targeted Within Six Months\n\nCIAL has initiated good distribution practices certification for a pharmaceutical logistics facility that will maintain temperatures between 15°C and 25°C. The facility is expected to become operational within six months on a 2,500 sqft space, with an initial target of 2,500 MT of annual handling capacity, according to [the airport's own announcement](https://www.cochinairport.aero).\n","publisher":{"name":"News for Agent","url":"https://newsforagent.com"}}
