[MOL Group](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/0003hwf/mol-group) reported profit before tax of $1,250 million for the third quarter of 2026, supported by favourable natural gas prices, strong refining margins and two one-off items worth $233 million in total. The Hungarian integrated oil and gas company announced the results on November 6, [EIN Presswire](https://www.einnews.com/pr_news/954998304/mol-group-s-international-operation-supported-the-good-results-in-the-third-quarter-of-2026) reported. MOL Group operates across exploration, refining, petrochemicals and retail in more than 40 countries, with over 2,000 service stations across Central and Eastern Europe, according to [akta.pro company records](https://akta.pro/company-data).

## Upstream Gains and Refining Margins Lift MOL

Upstream results rose quarter on quarter on higher natural gas prices, partly offset by lower average oil prices in the quarter. The realized hydrocarbon price averaged around $98/boe, and production stood slightly above 94 mboepd, helped by higher output at Shaikan and Pearl in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Fedorovskoye in Kazakhstan. Volumes were lower in Central and Eastern Europe due to a planned turnaround in Croatia and Hungary, and lower production entitlement of ACG in Azerbaijan.

Downstream improved significantly year on year on exceptionally strong refining margins, while weak petrochemicals performance continued to weigh on the segment. Processed crude volumes in Hungary and Slovakia were flat compared with the previous quarter as the AV3 unit at the Danube Refinery stayed offline throughout Q3; construction was completed in September and production restarted at the end of October. The Rijeka Refinery upgrade programme was completed, with the new delayed coker unit ramping up and contributing additional diesel production from September.

Consumer Services fuel sales volumes rose year on year, driven by price controls and a low-margin environment across Central and Eastern Europe, while unit margins declined year on year in all key markets. The Fresh Corner network expanded to 1,438 units. Gas Midstream results fell year on year as demand for regional transmission services dropped sharply.

Chairman and CEO Zsolt Hernádi said: "We had a particularly good quarter. The strong performance is partly attributed to our Upstream segment, which operates in 10 countries, as the business was able to capitalize on the favourable pricing environment." He added that "in nearly all of our markets, some form of government price regulation has been introduced for our main product—fuel."

## MOL's Investment and Tax Burden

Since 2020, MOL has invested over $10 billion organically across the group, including projects supporting security of supply, diversification and the energy transition, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show FY2026 guidance for Clean CCS EBITDA of $3.0 billion and Q1 2026 profit before tax of about $212 million. Hernádi said the tax-to-revenue ratio stood at 35% in 2026, compared with 20% in 2016, after peaking at 56% in 2022.

## NIS Licence and Danube Restart Precede Results

On November 5, 2026, the U.S. Treasury's OFAC granted MOL and MOL Serbia Investment Kft. a licence to carry out preparatory transactions for acquiring a Russian-held majority stake in Serbian refiner NIS, SeeNews reported. On October 30, 2026, MOL said a distillation unit at the Danube refinery damaged in a 2025 fire had resumed operations at full capacity, Devdiscourse reported. On October 26, 2026, MOL and its subsidiaries submitted refund requests for previously paid Hungarian carbon dioxide quota tax under new legislation, with the expected refund totalling approximately HUF 133 billion including interest and payment expected in 2026, The future of trading reported.

## Carbon Quota Refund Expected in 2026

The carbon quota tax refund is expected to be paid in 2026, and the AV3 unit at the Danube Refinery restarted production at the end of October.
