KBR has been awarded a contract by AKT Oil Services Company to provide detailed engineering design services for the West Qurna-1 Low-Pressure Gas Capture Project in Iraq, the company said in a TradingView-published report. The project forms part of Basrah Gas Company's multi-billion-dollar programme to expand gas capture infrastructure and reduce flaring across southern Iraq.
KBR's Design Scope at West Qurna-1
Under the award, KBR will supply multi-discipline detailed engineering design services for Gas Compressor Station 6 at the West Qurna-1 oil field, which the company describes as one of the world's largest, with more than 20 billion barrels of recoverable reserves. The project is intended to capture low-pressure associated gas that is currently flared and feed it into Iraq's domestic energy value chain, with the aim of supporting greater energy efficiency and reduced emissions.
"As a key contributor to Iraq's growing energy infrastructure, KBR is proud to partner with AKT and support BGC's vision for a more sustainable and efficient energy future," said Euan McCulloch, KBR Vice President, Middle East. "This award builds on our decades-long presence in Iraq and reflects our continued focus on engineering solutions that support energy security, gas monetisation and lower-carbon development across the region," he said.
The company said the project expands its portfolio of energy infrastructure work in Iraq and the Middle East, spanning gas processing, field development, infrastructure planning and fertilizer production. KBR has been a service provider in Iraq for more than four decades. The project is being delivered by AKT under its engineering, procurement and construction contract with Basrah Gas Company.
KBR's Backlog and Revenue Base
According to akta.pro company records, KBR's funded backlog for fiscal 2024 exceeded $20 billion. The same records show first-quarter 2026 revenue of $1.9 billion, down 5% year over year primarily because of expected EUCOM contingency runoff, and full-year fiscal 2026 guidance reaffirmed at $7.90 billion to $8.36 billion. KBR is a publicly traded science, technology and engineering solutions provider founded in 1901 and headquartered in Houston.
KBR's Earlier Contract Wins
In October 2026, KBR was awarded contracts to revamp two ammonia plants owned by AGF Nitrogen in Germany and Austria, Investing.com reported. That same month, the Pentagon selected KBR's Firefly laser system for a pilot programme to defend military bases against adversarial drones, according to Yahoo. In May 2026, KBR granted NorSAF an exclusive European licence for its PureSAF technology to build what is planned as Northern Europe's largest sustainable aviation fuel facility in Latvia, targeting 100,000 tonnes of annual production by 2030.
KBR's Planned Spin-Off Date
KBR plans to spin off its Mission Technology Solutions business into a separate independent public company, with the transaction expected to be completed on January 4, 2027. The spin-off entity is projected to launch with more than $5 billion in revenue and approximately 20,000 employees.
