[Aviationpros](https://www.aviationpros.com/ground-support-worldwide/ground-handling/news/55417224/calgary-airport-expands-assaias-apronai-to-cargo-operations) reported that AI-enabled cameras installed at Apron 9 are scheduled to go live November 10.\n\n## How the Apron 9 Cargo Deployment Works\n\nThe expansion follows last year's deployment of ApronAI across the airport's passenger gates. At Apron 9, one of YYC's dedicated cargo aprons, the system will monitor freighter turnarounds from arrival to departure and record when activities such as unloading, loading and fueling begin and end.\n\nCalgary Airports, cargo operators and ground handlers will share the same real-time operational data, which is intended to help them spot delays, improve coordination and better understand turnaround performance. Cargo turnarounds can vary considerably with shipment types and handling requirements, making turnaround times harder to predict than passenger aircraft turnarounds.\n\n\"We're going live just ahead of our busiest stretch of the year for cargo, and that timing is intentional,\" said Megan Gupton, chief information officer at Calgary Airports. \"Peak season tests every part of the operation. It will show us and our partners where things run smoothly and where we can improve, and we'll use what we learn to plan for 2027 and beyond.\"\n\nChristiaan Hen, CEO of [Assaia](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/00066o4/assaia), said the platform captures what happens on the apron so Calgary Airports and its partners can understand that variability and make cargo operations more predictable and efficient. The project received support from the Government of Canada through its National Trade Corridors Fund.\n\n## Assaia's Funding and Airport Footprint\n\nAssaia is a Zurich-based aviation technology company founded in 2018 that applies AI and computer vision to aircraft turnaround operations, according to akta.pro [company records](https://akta.pro/company-data). The same records show a $26.6 million Series B led by Armira Growth, closed in December 2025, and a platform used across 21 major international airports and monitoring 460 airlines.\n\n## Assaia's Run of Airport and Airline Deals\n\nAssaia's recent agreements include a June 2026 expansion in which Hokkaido Airports Co. began implementing ApronAI at New Chitose Airport's international terminal to optimize turnarounds, Aviationpros reported. In August 2026, Breeze Airways partnered with Assaia to deploy computer vision and AI for real-time visibility into turnaround operations across its airport network, Aviationpros reported. United Airlines Ventures invested in Assaia in September 2026 to support development of StandManager, a stand and gate management product, startupticker.ch reported.\n\n## What Happens at Apron 9 on November 10\n\nThe ApronAI cameras at Apron 9 are scheduled to go live on November 10, ahead of the airport's busiest cargo period of the year.\n","publisher":{"name":"News for Agent","url":"https://newsforagent.com"}}
