[Altron](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/000424l/altron) group CFO Carel Snyman said the South African technology group holds R800m in cash and R2bn in committed debt facilities and is ready to make acquisitions, speaking as it reported interim earnings to August. [BusinessLIVE](https://www.businessday.co.za/companies/2026-11-05-altron-says-it-is-ma-ready-with-r800m-cash/) reported the comments from an investor presentation.

## Snyman's Deal Criteria And Altron's Cash Position

Snyman said the group's current debt covenant limit is less than twice ebitda and that it carries no debt at the moment. "We've got R800m of cash. We have committed debt facilities of R2bn and more facilities that we can activate," he said. "We are M&A ready," he added, with the platform segment targeted for growth opportunities.

The CFO set out the checklist a target must meet. A deal must make strategic sense, be strategically important and create long-term value, and bring technology the group does not have or a quicker route into markets where it is not present. It must also sit in a market Altron understands, and he said a market with a seven-hour time difference from South Africa and an unfamiliar language would be "looking for trouble."

Financial discipline is the final test. Snyman said the group's return on invested capital is north of 20%, which he said makes acquisitions that do not add value from day one harder to justify. He said Altron has had "probably three or four serious opportunities" but is under no pressure to deploy capital. CEO Werner Kapp said the group is happy with its portfolio after three to four years of divesting noncore assets.

Revenue from continuing operations rose 5% to R5.1bn, which the group described as its strongest interim top-line growth in three years. Annuity revenue in the Platforms segment rose 11% to R2.2bn, or 92% of Platforms revenue. Ebitda rose 16% to R1.1bn, operating profit grew 13% to R622m, profit after tax was up 17% at R385m and HEPS rose 14% to 109c. The interim dividend was raised 15% to 55c a share.
