Monivent AB has been granted an additional patent by the European Patent Office covering the mask adapter used in its Neo100 newborn respiratory support system, the company said in a news.cision.com announcement on November 4, 2026. The Swedish medical device maker said the patent protects flow channel and pressure connection designs in the disposable component.
What the EPO Patent Covers in the Neo100 System
The patent stems from a European divisional application in the same family as a previously granted Swedish patent titled "Monitoring Arrangement for Flow Constriction." It covers technical solutions built into Monivent's disposable components, and a corresponding protection has already been granted by the Swedish Intellectual Property Office. Monivent said patents protecting other aspects of its technology have previously been granted by the Swedish office, the European Patent Office, the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The newly granted patent protects specific elements of the mask adapter design, including the configuration of flow channels and pressure connections. Monivent said these elements help enable reliable, high-precision flow measurement in a compact and cost-effective design. The adapter is part of the Neo100 system and works with the sensor module to measure the pressure and flow of air delivered to a patient during manual ventilation, with the data presented to the healthcare professional.
"The mask adapter, which is a disposable component of the Neo100 system, is essential to the functionality of the company's products," said Maria Lindqvist, CEO of Monivent. "Sales of disposable components will also account for an increasing share of the company's revenue as the installed base of systems in the market grows."
Monivent's Funding and Distribution Plans
According to akta.pro company records, Monivent raised approximately SEK 3.9 million through a convertible loan from 16 lenders including major shareholders and former executives in October 2024 to fund immediate capital needs. The same records show the company announced plans for a subsequent rights issue of approximately SEK 13 million, structured to be contingent on closing a planned global distribution deal. Monivent was also in active negotiations in 2024 to secure a global distribution agreement for international expansion of its neonatal resuscitation products.
Earlier Steps Toward the Neo100 Launch
Monivent received MDR certification for its Neo100 device from BSI in September 2026, enabling a planned European launch with Dräger, according to news.cision.com. The certification followed a 2023 application and an extensive review, and may facilitate registrations in markets such as Australia. Earlier that month, Monivent's board appointed Tobias Tullberg as CEO effective January 4, 2027, with Lindqvist transitioning to a product development and clinical collaborations role, news.cision.com reported.
Tullberg's Start Date as CEO
Tullberg is scheduled to become CEO on January 4, 2027, when Lindqvist moves into her new role focused on product development and clinical collaborations.
