Google will invest $15 billion in Malaysia from 2027 to 2028, with the spending going towards data centre campuses, clean energy, water security and upskilling workers, the Alphabet unit said on November 4, 2026. Channel NewsAsia reported the announcement from Kuala Lumpur.
Where Google's Malaysia Campuses Will Go
Google plans to build new campuses in the states of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, in addition to its first campus at Elmina Business Park in Selangor, which is already operational. Ruth Porat, Alphabet and Google's president and chief investment officer, said: "This investment aligns with Malaysia's development priorities, providing the foundational computing capacity to deliver the upside of innovation across the country while adding local power and water resources as our operations scale."
Google said the construction phase for the campuses is expected to contribute an annual average of $1.1 billion to Malaysia's GDP and support more than 37,000 local jobs per year. Once operational, the facilities are projected to sustain more than 9,000 local jobs per year, with wages averaging 45 per cent above the national median.
Google said it also plans to add more than 1 gigawatt of clean energy capacity to Malaysia's national grid. The company said it will pay for 100 per cent of the power its data centre campuses use and the direct infrastructure costs required to connect them to the grid, while complying with all applicable local regulations. Its Malaysian campuses will run at a Power Usage Effectiveness of 1.12 to 1.14, Google said.
Google also announced plans for four new programmes aimed at upskilling 800,000 Malaysians over the next five years.
Google's Capital Spending on AI Infrastructure
According to akta.pro company records, Google has planned $185 billion in AI-related capital expenditure for 2026, as stated by CEO Sundar Pichai. The same records list a $4.75 billion acquisition of Intersect Power for renewable energy infrastructure and a $32 billion acquisition of Wiz, Google's largest-ever acquisition, completed in March 2026.
Earlier Google Energy and Cloud Moves
In July 2026, Google broke ground on the Steel River Energy Center in Arkansas with Cypress Creek Energy and LG Energy Solution, the largest solar project in the U.S. at 2.5 GWdc solar and 2.9 GWh battery storage, securing dedicated power for AI data center expansion, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show Google completed its $32 billion acquisition of Wiz in March 2026, integrating AI-driven multicloud security into Google Cloud after EU and US DOJ unconditional approvals.
What Comes Next for the Malaysia Build
The Malaysia investment is scheduled to run across 2027 and 2028, with the new campuses planned for Selangor and Negeri Sembilan alongside the operational Elmina Business Park site.
