Freemelt has received a SEK 3.3 million order from Alsymex, a subsidiary of the French technology group ALCEN and a supplier to the ITER fusion energy project, for advanced tungsten components. TradingView reported the order on November 4, 2026. Final delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
Freemelt's Tungsten Work for ITER
Freemelt is a Swedish manufacturer of Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion metal 3D printers, listed on Nasdaq First North, serving defense, energy and MedTech customers. The order is an initial step in qualifying advanced tungsten components for future ITER applications. Tungsten is a critical material for future fusion reactors because it withstands extreme temperatures and demanding operating environments. Following ITER's decision to move from beryllium to tungsten in plasma-facing applications, qualification activities are underway to evaluate advanced tungsten materials and components.
The project forms part of the Small Scale Mock-up programme, an early qualification campaign supporting the introduction of tungsten in ITER. Freemelt will manufacture and deliver subassemblies consisting of tungsten bricks joined to copper substrates for subsequent bonding and high heat flux testing. "This project represents an important milestone in the ongoing qualification of tungsten for fusion energy applications," said Daniel Gidlund, CEO of Freemelt. "Being selected to contribute to one of the first ITER-related qualification programmes validates both our materials expertise and our capability to manufacture advanced tungsten components for demanding industrial applications."
Alsymex holds several ITER contracts signed with Fusion for Energy, the EU organisation responsible for Europe's contribution to the project, including plasma-facing components. Alsymex employs more than 600 people across six industrial sites in France. The order follows Freemelt's previously announced SEK 55 million JT-60SA manufacturing order from F4E.
Freemelt's Fusion Orders on Record
According to akta.pro company records, Freemelt secured a feasibility-study order from TAE Technologies in June 2026 involving printing tungsten components for fusion engineering applications. The same records show a February 2026 memorandum of understanding with Novatron Fusion Group on manufacturing methods for fusion reactors, and a July 2025 order from the UK Atomic Energy Authority for an electron beam machine to produce components for fusion energy systems.
Earlier Freemelt Orders This Autumn
On October 30, 2026, 3D Printing Industry reported that Freemelt won a SEK 28 million order from the European Spallation Source to manufacture 7,000 tungsten-based components for the target wheel system, with deliveries over 14 months and most in 2027. On September 30, 2026, Metal-am reported that Freemelt signed a €300,000 contract with F4E to develop manufacturing methods for tungsten-based fusion components, including powder processing and material optimisation.
Freemelt's Next Report Date
Freemelt's full interim report for the third quarter is due on November 16, 2026, according to TradingView. The company's proposed rights issue of approximately SEK 151.8 million is subject to shareholder approval at an extraordinary general meeting.
