Walmart and drone operator [Wing](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/0003fqa/wing) presented plans to deliver prepared dinners and medicine by autonomous aircraft to Manchester, Missouri, officials, and Mayor Benjamin Tobin said no deliveries will begin in the city this year. [FOX 2](https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/walmart-presents-drone-delivery-plans-to-manchester/) reported the presentation to the Board of Alderman.

## Inside the Manchester Drone Proposal

Wing and [Walmart](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/00003tv/walmart) pitched a service in which aircraft fly autonomously from a command center without a pilot nearby, carrying items from prepared meals to medicine for children to eligible households. Tobin described the range of goods under discussion: "I never thought I'd see a rotisserie chicken fly."

Board members and residents at the meeting raised privacy concerns about autonomous aircraft operating overhead. A Wing representative told the community the drones are built for delivery only, adding: "No photos or live video feed."

Tobin said Wing must formally apply and go through the city's review procedure, beginning with the Planning and Zoning Commission. The Manchester proposal follows a similar plan explored in St. Charles County a few months earlier.

Wing, part of Alphabet, has been expanding its Walmart work. It demonstrated drone delivery technology with Walmart in Philadelphia on October 19, 2026, and plans to begin service in greater Philadelphia as part of a coast-to-coast expansion with the retailer, according to [Naver](https://akta.pro/news-signals).

## Walmart's Scale Behind the Pitch

Walmart is the world's largest retailer, with about 4,600 U.S. stores serving 150 million weekly shoppers across 34 countries, according to akta.pro [company records](https://akta.pro/company-data). The same records put FY2026 revenue at approximately $713.2 billion, up 4.7% year over year, and Q1 FY27 revenue at $175.68 billion, up 6.08% year over year. Walmart holds 20.3% of the U.S. grocery market, ahead of Kroger at 8.7% and Costco at 8.3%.

## Earlier Drone Delivery Moves

Walmart launched drone delivery in West Memphis, Arkansas, with a ribbon-cutting attended by city officials, and said it aims to serve 40 million customers by 2027, Yahoo reported on November 2, 2026. Standard fees apply, with Walmart+ members getting free delivery on eligible orders for a limited time.

Wing's expansion has also reached home improvement. Lowe's launched drone delivery through Wing and DoorDash, delivering select items in as fast as 20 minutes from a Matthews, North Carolina, store, Robotics & Automation News reported on October 8, 2026.

## Manchester Open House on November 4

The City of Manchester will hold an open house on November 4 for residents to learn about the program and give direct feedback.
