Steptoe LLP has moved its New York office into 1133 Avenue of the Americas, a 1.1 million-square-foot Class A tower in Midtown Manhattan, the firm announced on November 2, 2026. The move follows the firm's October 2025 announcement of its lease at the building, according to EIN Presswire.

Steptoe's New York Growth and Three-Floor Space

Steptoe & Johnson is an international law firm founded in 1913 with more than 500 lawyers and other professional staff across offices in Beijing, Brussels, Chicago, Hong Kong, Houston, London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.

The New York office has increased its ranks by nearly three dozen lawyers in the past two years, including partners with regulatory and enforcement experience in financial services, as well as additions in international trade, national security, commercial litigation, intellectual property, tax, bankruptcy, and insurance litigation.

"Today marks an exciting milestone for Steptoe in New York," said Michelle Levin, managing partner of Steptoe's New York office. "With our recent growth and expanded capabilities, we wanted our space to reflect who we are as a firm: collaborative, forward-looking, and deeply committed to our clients."

An interconnecting stair links the firm's three floors and leads up to a top-floor amenity space with flexible multipurpose rooms, breakout meeting rooms, and a large café that can also serve as a venue for events and client entertainment. The 45-story building, located between West 43rd and 44th Streets, features a travertine lobby with an LED sculpture by Leo Villareal, destination dispatch elevator controls, and a landscaped outdoor plaza, and is certified LEED Gold under LEED v4 Existing Buildings: Operations + Maintenance.

Steptoe's Chicago and San Francisco Additions

According to akta.pro company records, Steptoe appointed Rachel M. Cannon as Managing Partner of its Chicago office in June 2026, overseeing a team that has already added five lawyers and professionals in 2026. The same records show the firm expanded its San Francisco office with the addition of Natalie Rainer, an FDA and consumer products regulatory partner, along with earlier hires Jamari Buxton, Ryan Lapine, and Corey LaPlante.

Earlier Steptoe Hires in New York

In September 2026, Steptoe added Della Sentilles as a partner in its Investigations, White-Collar Defense & Compliance group in New York, Pulse 2.0 reported. She previously served as Executive Director in Global Financial Crimes at Morgan Stanley and as a senior attorney in the DOJ's Fraud Section. The firm was founded in 1913 by Philip Steptoe and Louis A. Johnson and split in 1980 into Steptoe LLP and Steptoe & Johnson PLLC, according to The European Financial Review.

Steptoe's New York Opening Plans

Steptoe said it plans to welcome guests to the new office in the weeks and months ahead, according to Levin's statement.
