Inside Infineum's Mumbai Office Opening
Infineum International is a UK-based, Shell-owned specialty chemicals company that formulates and manufactures fuel and lubricant additives for automotive OEMs, oil marketers and industrial users. The new office sits in one of Mumbai's commercial hubs and is intended to bring the company closer to customers, partners and industry stakeholders in India.
India is the world's third-largest automotive and lubricants market, and Infineum expects lubricant demand there to grow more than 3% annually over the next decade. The company said it has supported India's automotive and lubricant industries for more than a decade, including work on the transition to API FA-4 and ACEA E8 quality standards and a position in the Bharat Stage VI commercial vehicle and passenger car markets.
Harshad Jambaulikar, General Manager, Infineum India, said: "The opening of our new Mumbai office reflects Infineum's long-term commitment to India." John Hong, Asia Pacific Sales Director, Infineum, said: "India is one of Infineum's most important growth markets in Asia Pacific and a cornerstone of our long-term regional strategy."
Infineum's India Records and Global Scale
Infineum opened a new blending plant in Patalganga in March 2026, operated by LSR Specialty Oils, according to akta.pro company records. The same records list a memorandum of understanding with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, signed on November 3, 2025 in Mumbai, to expand cooperation in lubricant technology. The global lubricant additives market was valued at USD 18.54 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach USD 22.29 billion by 2032, expanding at a CAGR of 2.57%, with Infineum identified as a key player.
Earlier Infineum Moves in Asia and Alternative Fuels
In July 2026, Infineum and Kangtai signed a distribution collaboration agreement on July 22, 2026, to expand access to additive and specialty chemical solutions across Southern Asia, ANTARA News reported. In August 2026, Autocar Professional reported that Infineum experts cited Brazil's historical experience to argue that fears regarding engine damage from India's E20 ethanol fuel rollout are overblown, noting that modern vehicles can adapt without catastrophic failures.
