Key takeaways

  • New Idea Machine launched a Codebase Audit that gives owners of AI-built apps three reports on security, architecture and modularity.
  • CTO and co-founder AL Del Degan, who has 33 years building software, leads every audit and meets each owner for an hour afterward.
  • The audit uses read-only access and is a review against industry best practices, not a penetration test or a security certification.

New Idea Machine has launched a Codebase Audit for apps built with AI, a service that delivers three reports on security, architecture and modularity. The Calgary firm announced the offering on November 1, according to PRLog. AL Del Degan, CTO and co-founder, leads every audit.

Inside the New Idea Machine Codebase Audit

The service grew out of a pattern the firm saw in two weeks this fall, when three founders asked what it would take to get their AI-built apps to market. One had already been told the app would have to be thrown away and rebuilt from scratch. "AI made it easier than ever for founders to build an app. It didn't make it easier to know whether that app is ready for paying customers," said Rea Hailley, CEO and co-founder of New Idea Machine.

Del Degan, who has 33 years building software, uses AI to review the app's code, points it to where problems usually hide, and double-checks what it finds. Every finding comes with a fix written so the owner's AI tool can make many of the changes. Del Degan then meets the owner for an hour to plan the next step. The audit uses read-only access, so nothing in the app changes, and it is a review against industry best practices rather than a penetration test or a security certification.

Hailley framed the audit around owners keeping what they have built. "A Codebase Audit shows the owner of a vibe coded app how to build on what they have instead of paying to start over," she said. New Idea Machine also runs a live online bootcamp that teaches owners to build with AI using guardrails Del Degan wrote, instructions that tell the AI what it may and may not do. One owner had spent a year on his app, with the AI changing things he never asked for, and hundreds of dollars on AI credits; after the bootcamp, he uploaded the guardrails and got exactly what he wanted within an hour.

New Idea Machine's Prior Security and Scoping Work

According to akta.pro company records, New Idea Machine established a core referral partnership with ThreeShield, embedding vetted security and compliance expertise into the development process for clients handling health records, financial information and personal information. The same records list the App Cost Calculator at acc.newideamachine.com, a $197 self-service scoping tool that produces developer-ready specifications and is credited back in full upon hiring the firm. The company's website carries Codebase Audit details.

How Other Security Vendors Approach AI Code

SafeBreach's CTEM Platform offers AI-powered capabilities to automate validation, test AI attack surfaces and validate defenses against AI-generated attacks, Security Boulevard reported on October 30. Forrester wrote on October 29 that AI accelerates vulnerability discovery while human review remains a bottleneck, and predicted AI-generated bugs will cause a global outage across industries by 2027. MarkTechPost reported on October 25 that Cognition released the free open-source Devin Vulnerability Fixes plugin, three agent skills that patch PHP2Shell, Node.js and GitLab vulnerabilities with an approval gate and tests before and after.
