Moneywise Media LLP, publisher of financial news portal Moneylife, has moved the Delhi High Court against an interim order in a defamation suit filed by Indiabulls Nests Ltd and Sameer Gehlaut. ANI reported that the appeal challenges the October 24 order of the Principal District and Sessions Judge at Patiala House Courts. The details were reported by Ani News.

What Moneylife Is Challenging in the Indiabulls Suit

Moneywise has challenged the order only as it applies to the publisher. According to the appeal, Moneywise was named as one of the defendants over a Moneylife report published on May 8, 2025 about proceedings before the Supreme Court.

The report, titled "SC Asks ED, RBI To Submit Status Report on Indiabulls Investigation", covered a Supreme Court hearing and the directions issued during the proceedings. The appeal states that the report attributed the allegations to the proceedings and carried the company's denial.

The district court's order included directions restraining the defendants from publishing allegedly false, defamatory or misleading content about the plaintiffs, along with directions on deleting and de-indexing certain online links. The suit named multiple defendants, including publishers, journalists, website operators and intermediaries, over several publications and online material.

Moneywise contends the order was passed without notice to it or an opportunity of hearing. It has objected to the scope of the interim directions and sought protection for its report and for future reporting of judicial and official proceedings.

The Relief Sought by Moneywise

Moneywise has sought a stay on the October 24 order insofar as it concerns the publisher. In the alternative, it has sought interim protection against directions requiring removal or de-indexing of its May 2025 report and against restrictions on reporting judicial or official proceedings concerning the plaintiffs. It has also sought protection from coercive action based on the interim order while the appeal is pending before the High Court.

Indiabulls' Restructuring Under Sameer Gehlaut

Indiabulls is a Mumbai-headquartered, publicly listed Indian conglomerate that develops residential and commercial real estate in India and London and holds regulated financial services subsidiaries, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show founder Sameer Gehlaut returned as promoter in June 2026, with the promoter stake rising from 27.46% to 32.89% through a restructuring that consolidated 17 group entities into a single listed entity, approved by the NCLT in August 2025.

Earlier Indiabulls Legal and Regulatory Events

On October 3, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India granted Indiabulls Limited a Certificate of Registration as a Core Investment Company, bringing it under the central bank's regulatory framework, ANI reported. On September 1, 2026, The Times of India reported that NCLT president Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal constituted a five-member bench to hear Indiabulls Housing Finance's insolvency plea against Subhash Chandra over guarantees he offered to lenders. On August 24, 2026, BW Disrupt reported that the CBI filed its 18th chargesheet in a Supreme Court-monitored probe into alleged homebuyer fraud, naming MKHS Housing LLP, Indiabulls Distribution Service and Indiabulls Investment Advisors and their directors and officials over a Rajarhat Town housing project in West Bengal.

The appeal remains pending before the Delhi High Court.
