Verra Mobility, which holds a $1 billion contract to oversee New York City traffic-enforcement cameras, appears to have removed its [Flock Safety](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/000007y/flock-safety) partnership from its website, the [New York Post](https://nypost.com/2026/10/30/us-news/firm-with-1b-nyc-traffic-camera-contract-appears-to-be-trying-to-cover-up-ties-to-flock/) reported on October 30, 2026. Verra had been listed as a partner on Flock's site until earlier this year.

## Verra's Flock Listing and Florida Bids

A blurb under Verra's logo on Flock's site this year read: "Verra Mobility provides automated traffic enforcement systems. Integration with Flock Safety's platform helps communities enforce road safety more effectively." The post has since been deleted, according to the Post.

Verra also touted its relationship with Flock while bidding on traffic-enforcement contracts for schools and municipalities in Florida as recently as 2025. In seeking a contract with the city of Greenacres in Florida in April 2025 for a school-zone speed-safety camera setup, Verra said it was "integrated with Flock and other data providers," according to a public-meeting agenda.

A representative for Verra told the Post it has since stopped such Flock-involved Florida bids and insisted the company's hardware has never been integrated with Flock's. Verra noted that its five-year New York City contract specifies that the city's Department of Transportation owns all data collected by the cameras and that it cannot be shared with third parties such as Flock.

## Flock Safety's Funding and Compliance Tools

Flock Safety, founded in 2017 and headquartered in Atlanta, sells AI-powered license plate readers, video cameras, gunshot detection sensors and drones to roughly 6,000 law enforcement agencies, municipalities, schools and businesses across 49 U.S. states, according to akta.pro [company records](https://akta.pro/company-data). The company closed a $1.2 billion Series I funding round in April 2026, lifting its valuation to roughly $8.4 billion, the same records show. Flock also launched Audit Assistance within its Trust & Compliance suite in April 2026, providing automated auditing of license plate reader search patterns at no additional cost to agencies.

## Earlier Moves Against Flock Contracts

James City County Police in Virginia said it would replace Flock Safety cameras with Axon automated license plate readers after seven were vandalized in September, Yahoo reported. The department terminated Flock on September 29, citing customer service and support issues.

Emory University removed a dozen license-plate-reading cameras and ended its Flock Safety contract after student protests, Inside Higher Ed reported, following similar actions at Cornell and Penn State. At least 150 institutions use the surveillance technology.

## Albany Hearing on License Plate Readers

State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, a Queens Democrat who chairs the Assembly Consumer Protection Committee, and other state lawmakers are scheduled to hold a hearing in Albany next month over potentially reining in the reach of license-plate readers. "If a vendor is removing information about its practices, that raises questions that deserve clear answers,'' Rozic told the Post.
