By News Desk ·
Key takeaways
- NTU Singapore and Google signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering campus AI integration, regional language models, frontier research and AI safety.
- NTU undergraduates have had full access to Gemini Enterprise, Google AI Studio and Vertex AI since August 2026.
- NTU aims to embed AI into 40 per cent of undergraduate courses by 2030, supported by Google AI Educator Series training and Google for Education Certifications.
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Google signed a Memorandum of Understanding on October 30, 2026 to deepen their artificial intelligence collaboration across education, research and workforce readiness. Mirage News reported that NTU Provost and Deputy President Professor Christian Wolfrum and Yossi Matias, Vice President, Google and General Manager, Google Research, signed the agreement.
What the NTU and Google MOU Covers
The agreement sets out four areas: campus-wide AI integration, regional language and sovereign model development under AI Singapore (AISG), frontier scientific research, and advanced AI safety. It also covers faculty training and professional certification.
On education, NTU will use Google AI tools for structured upskilling of faculty and educators and will explore connecting Gemini Enterprise with NTU Learn so pedagogical content becomes secure, searchable and AI-accessible. The initiatives support NTU's goal of embedding AI into 40 per cent of undergraduate courses by 2030. The Google AI Educator Series offers stackable, badge-accredited training, and academic staff can attain Google for Education Certifications.
With AISG, the two organisations will co-drive regional language work through Projects ATLAS and Amplify, collecting, cataloguing and open-sourcing datasets that reflect Southeast Asian linguistic nuances. They seek to develop sovereign AI models for education and healthcare using Google's open-weight models such as Gemma and MedGemma.
NTU will design and deploy a secure research sandbox on Google Cloud Platform with architectural guidance from Google, letting researchers launch pre-approved environments on demand. The agreement also covers research into AI privacy, safety and security, including post-quantum cryptography, deepfake detection and cryptographic defences for model privacy.
Wolfrum said: "Our expanded partnership with Google provides our students, faculty, and researchers with access to frontier tools and secure cloud infrastructure." Matias said: "Our expanded partnership with NTU brings both together, giving Singapore's researchers the resources to push scientific boundaries and turn breakthroughs into real-world impact in education and healthcare."
Google's AI Investment and Cloud Record
According to akta.pro company records, Google completed a $32 billion acquisition of Wiz in March 2026, its largest-ever acquisition, integrating AI-driven multicloud security into Google Cloud. The same records list $185 billion in AI-related capital expenditure planned for 2026 as stated by CEO Sundar Pichai, and a $4.75 billion acquisition of Intersect Power for renewable energy infrastructure.
Google's Recent Product and Infrastructure Moves
In August 2026, Google scheduled its "Made by Google" event to launch the Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5, debuting the Tensor G6 chip built on TSMC's 2nm process and Gemini Intelligence agentic features, according to akta.pro company records. In July 2026, Google broke ground on the Steel River Energy Center in Arkansas with Cypress Creek Energy and LG Energy Solution, described in the same records as the largest solar project in the U.S. at 2.5 GWdc solar and 2.9 GWh battery storage.
Google also agreed in October 2026 to pay $150 million up-front to PG&E for a grid connection at its San Jose campus, covering 250 megawatts of electricity demand, The Mercury News reported.
