Wolfspeed signed a multiyear supply agreement to provide silicon carbide devices for BorgWarner's next-generation 800V silicon carbide-based inverter platform, the companies said October 28, 2026. Business Wire published the announcement. The agreement extends an existing customer relationship through a multiyear commitment.
Wolfspeed's Multiyear BorgWarner Supply Agreement
Wolfspeed is a vertically integrated silicon carbide semiconductor company that produces silicon carbide wafers, MOSFETs, diodes and power modules for automotive, AI data center, renewable energy, industrial and aerospace and defense customers globally. The agreement strengthens the companies' longstanding collaboration and is designed to give BorgWarner consistent, uninterrupted access to Wolfspeed silicon carbide devices.
BorgWarner is leveraging Wolfspeed's 1200V silicon carbide technology for its 800V silicon carbide-based inverter platform. Wolfspeed's Gen 5 silicon carbide technology is designed to support the efficiency, performance and reliability requirements of next-generation automotive power electronics. The agreement also aligns with Wolfspeed's scaled U.S. manufacturing capabilities, which have fully transitioned to 200 mm wafers.
"Our strategy is to combine our technology leadership with deep, long-term customer partnerships," said Matthias Buchner, SVP, Global Sales & Chief Marketing Officer at Wolfspeed. "Our supply agreement with BorgWarner demonstrates that strategy, bringing together advanced silicon carbide technology, proven quality and reliability, and scaled 200 mm manufacturing capabilities to deliver the performance and supply confidence BorgWarner needs for their next-generation EV platform."
Wolfspeed said electric vehicles accounted for 25% of new cars sold globally in 2025, and the International Energy Agency projects EVs could represent approximately half of global car sales by 2035.
Wolfspeed's Gen 5 Technology and 200 mm Manufacturing
According to akta.pro company records, Wolfspeed introduced its fifth-generation silicon carbide MOSFET technology for 1200V and 750V automotive and industrial applications in June 2026, offering up to 27% efficiency improvement and built on the 200mm Mohawk Valley wafer platform. The same records show Wolfspeed's FQ3 2026 consolidated revenue was $150 million, with the company guiding Q3 revenue to a $140-160 million range.
Wolfspeed's Earlier 2026 Agreements
In June 2026, Wolfspeed signed a Memorandum of Understanding with GE Aerospace to co-develop high-voltage silicon carbide standards and power module formats for industrial, aerospace and defense markets, including supply of 10 kV MOSFET die, according to akta.pro company records. In February 2026, Wolfspeed said it was expanding deployment of Snowflake's AI Data Cloud to unify factory, supply chain and enterprise data across operations, the same records show. In December 2025, Wolfspeed silicon carbide automotive MOSFETs were set to power onboard charger systems for Toyota's battery electric vehicles, according to the same records.
