[TradingView](https://www.tradingview.com/news/coindar:e2c3cfeef094b:0-ethereum-name-service-launches-mainnet/) carried the announcement, which the project also posted from its ens.eth account: \"ENSv2 is live on Ethereum mainnet.\"\n\n## What ENSv2 Does for Name Owners\n\n[Ethereum Name Service](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/00067nm/ethereum-name-service) runs a distributed, open and extensible naming system built on the Ethereum blockchain. Its core function is to map human-readable names such as 'alice.eth' to machine-readable identifiers including Ethereum addresses, other cryptocurrency addresses, content hashes and metadata. The protocol also supports reverse resolution, which associates metadata such as canonical names or interface descriptions with Ethereum addresses.\n\nENS shares goals with DNS, the internet's Domain Name Service, but uses a different architecture because of the capabilities and constraints of the Ethereum blockchain. It operates on dot-separated hierarchical names called domains, and the owner of a domain has full control over its subdomains. Top-level domains such as '.eth' and '.test' are owned by smart contracts called registrars, which specify the rules governing allocation of their subdomains. Anyone who follows those registrar rules can obtain ownership of a domain for their own use, and ENS also supports importing DNS names a user already owns.\n\nThe hierarchy lets any domain owner configure subdomains for themselves or others. If Alice owns 'alice.eth', for example, she can create 'pay.alice.eth' and configure it as she wishes. The project's own site is at [ens.domains](https://ens.domains).\n\n## ENSv2 Funding and Ecosystem Scale\n\nAccording to akta.pro [company records](https://akta.pro/company-data), the ENS DAO approved 800 ETH in March 2026 to fund the ENSv2 migration to ZKsync Era Layer 2, described as the protocol's most significant technical upgrade, with a testnet live since April 2026 and mainnet targeted for the third or fourth quarter of 2026. The same records list 638,435 owners and 1,345,030 names, and more than 600 integrations with wallets, dApps, exchanges and developer tools.\n\n## Earlier ENSv2 Permissions Work\n\nTradingView reported in May 2026 that Ethereum Name Service introduced role-based permissions for ENSv2, letting access to ENS names be split across different roles instead of one wallet controlling everything. AInvest reported in July 2026 that the ENS token rebounded 4.1% to $4.51 on July 26 amid a DAO governance crisis triggered by founder Nick Johnson blocking the Security Council renewal using approximately 50% of active voting power.\n","publisher":{"name":"News for Agent","url":"https://newsforagent.com"}}
