## McMaster Tours I-215 West Bridge Work

Crews will reopen several ramps at the I-215 and I-80 interchange, California Avenue, and the SR-201 and I-215 interchange on Tuesday morning. UDOT is using highly modified asphalt, a weather-resistant mix developed by its engineers that uses more polymer than traditional asphalt and can be laid in one layer instead of two, halving paving time.

"There's no road system in our country more important than our interstates," McMaster said. "It handles a quarter of all of our vehicle travel around the country, so when we talk about investing scarce federal dollars in projects, these are exactly the type of projects we want to see Utah and other states implement."

UDOT Commissioner Carlos Braceras said the job centers on replacing bridge decks. "Over time, the water, the salt that we use to melt the snow gets down into the steel and as the freeze-thaw happens, it pops the concrete, and if you've driven this section, we had a ton of potholes, we've been patching it for years," Braceras said. "The big part of this job is replacing those bridge decks with new bridge decks and we're going to seal them with a new material that's hopefully going to keep the water out of the bridges for a longer period of time."

When the project is completed in 2027, crews will have replaced 18 freeway bridge decks, repaired 12 more bridges, and constructed pavement on 14 miles of ramps along I-80 and California Avenue. UDOT is also adding a southbound auxiliary lane from 700 North to westbound I-80. UDOT is working with software to share real-time construction alerts through Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze, with plans to implement the alerts across more projects.

## Earlier UDOT Work This Fall

UDOT also warned of upcoming lane and ramp closures in Davis, Weber, and Salt Lake Counties, including I-15 lane striping, I-215 bridge work, and I-84 bridge replacement, with some lasting 20 days. In September 2026, UDOT completed a $152 million Energy Corridor project on State Routes 162 and 262 in San Juan County, including pavement replacement, guardrails, and a new roundabout.

## Construction Through Summer 2027
