Hino Australia's heavy-duty 700 Series has averaged around 100 retail sales per month since June, a record for the range, and the company expects its strongest-ever annual volume for the model in 2026. Mirage News reported the figures from a Hino Australia business briefing.
Hino's 700 Series Sales Momentum
Hino Australia President and CEO Richard Emery said the 700 Series was in a strong period. "The 700 Series is in a purple patch at the moment - since June, we have averaged around 100 retail sales per month, which is a record," he said. "It has been something of a sleeping giant since its launch, but with the additional models now available, it is going from strength to strength."
Emery said the heavy rigid segment had continued to demonstrate resilience while the overall heavy-duty market remained mixed. "We believe we have the strongest offering in the heavy rigid segment in terms of specification, model line-up and value," he said. Hino expects the 700 Series to make a significant contribution to its 2026 result.
Emery said 2026 had been a challenging year for the truck market, citing global events, higher fuel prices, consumer confidence and interest rates. "It would be fair to say that 2026 has not gone to plan, with a combination of global events, higher fuel prices, consumer confidence and interest rates creating a more challenging environment than we anticipated at the beginning of the year," he said. He said the market had contracted significantly over the past two years and that conditions were expected to remain challenging in the short term.
Hino's Product Range and Australian Operations
Hino Motor Sales Australia is the exclusive Australian distributor of Hino commercial trucks, covering the 300, 500 and 700 Series plus Hybrid Electric and Built to Go variants, for the Toyota Group, according to akta.pro company records. The records show the business has supplied the Australian market for over 50 years, and its parent, Hino Motors Limited, operates in approximately 90 countries and regions.
Hino expanded the 700 Series heavy-duty model range into dealerships in 2026, with management projecting a record-breaking year for the range, the same records show. Supply of the Euro 6 compliant 300 Series light-duty trucks is returning to dealerships, with a full line-up including new High Horsepower and Crew Cab models expected in 2027, alongside the anticipated return of the Euro 6 compliant 500 Series medium-duty range.
Earlier Hino Model Updates
Hino Australia updated its 300 Series diesel trucks with increased torque and higher towing capacity of at least 3.5 tonnes across the range, Mirage News reported in October 2026. The 2027 Hino 500 Series medium-duty truck became available for order in Australia in October 2026, featuring a 5.1-litre diesel engine producing 240hp and 794Nm torque, Mirage News reported. In August 2026, Mirage News reported that Hino Australia would showcase its firefighting and emergency response vehicles at the AFAC convention in Melbourne from 18-21 August, displaying three vehicles representing past, present and future offerings.
Hino's 2027 Model Plans
