Prudential Financial set up its first global capability centre in India, in Gurugram, employing just over 80 people and planning to double that number by the end of this year. The Times of India reported the centre's opening on October 24, 2026.
Inside Prudential's Gurugram Innovation Centre
PFI Innovation Centre India is the company's first global capability centre in India. Prudential Financial, a 150-year-old US financial services provider, expects the centre to develop products, modernise legacy systems, work on AI and data architecture, and potentially lead business capabilities for operations spanning the US, Japan and Europe.
"We want the centre here to be part of the fabric of our operating model for the whole company," Scott Case, head of global technology and operations at PFI, told the Times of India. The centre, he said, will not just support projects and tech stacks around the world, "but actually help us innovate for the future."
PFI has another GCC in Ireland, where it has several hundred employees. The decision to build its own operation in India marks a shift from relying heavily on third-party providers, though Case said outsourcing partners will continue to play an important role. In-house teams will increasingly handle strategic and critical work.
Pravin Goel, vice president and country head of PFI's India innovation centre, said the goal is to combine engineering, automation, cybersecurity and AI expertise with knowledge of insurance, asset management and underwriting. Prudential is also hiring for what Goel calls human skills: judgment, creativity and product management. Before joining PFI, Goel was with BlackRock for over a decade.
Prudential's AI Gains in Underwriting and Development
Case said the company has seen underwriting timelines shrink from weeks to days, while AI-assisted software development is generating productivity improvements of around 30%. At the Gurugram centre, AI will be applied across software engineering, underwriting and servicing, as well as corporate functions such as finance and procurement. The work will also involve modernising legacy technology and organising decades of data.
Case does not see Prudential eventually being run entirely by AI. The company is building governance and control frameworks around the technology and intends to keep people at the centre of decision making. For Goel, there is an even more fundamental reason humans will remain in charge: accountability. "Financial services are heavily regulated and accountability ultimately has to reside with people," he said.
Prudential's Recent Restructuring Moves
According to akta.pro company records, Prudential Financial is scaling back activities in Asia and Africa, including selling operations in Taiwan, India, Kenya, and Indonesia as part of a broader strategic restructuring, a move recorded in May 2026. The same records show the company issued $750 million of junior subordinated notes and $450 million of medium-term notes in June 2026, while maintaining $3.7 billion in highly liquid assets.
What Comes Next for Prudential
Prudential Financial's full third-quarter report is due after market close on November 3, 2026, according to TradingView. The company estimated a $140 million hit to third-quarter 2026 earnings from Japan due to a sales suspension, a reduction that includes one-time costs from Life Planner compensation, lost sales, and surrenders.
