A. Lange & Söhne introduced a limited-edition Datograph Perpetual (Ref. 410.136E) to mark the 20th anniversary of the collection, combining a flyback chronograph and perpetual calendar. The German watchmaker's platinum model is limited to 50 pieces, according to Yahoo. The original Datograph Perpetual, introduced in 2006, was the first watch from the manufacture to bring these complications together.

The Datograph Perpetual's Platinum Case and Dial

The new Datograph Perpetual retains the collection's emphasis on mechanical precision and balanced design. It features a 41mm case crafted from 950 platinum, a black dial made of 925 silver and coated with black rhodium, and 11 hand-applied baguette-shaped diamond hour markers. The edition is limited to 50 pieces.

The chronograph is controlled by a classic column wheel and features a jumping minute counter and flyback function, which allows the wearer to stop a timing measurement, reset the chronograph and immediately begin a new one with a single pusher operation. The chronograph measures elapsed time to one-fifth of a second.

The perpetual calendar automatically accounts for months of different lengths and leap years, displaying the date, day of the week and month. It will not require a calendar correction until March 1, 2100. The moon-phase display is similarly precise, deviating by just one day after 122.6 years if the watch runs continuously.

A rapid-correction pusher at 10 o'clock advances all calendar indications and the moon-phase display simultaneously. Individual correctors allow separate adjustments, while a safety mechanism helps prevent accidental activation of the rapid-correction pusher.

Inside the L952.1 Movement

Powering the watch is the manually wound, in-house L952.1 caliber, comprising 556 individual components, including 223 dedicated to the calendar mechanism. The movement contains 45 jewels and four screwed gold chatons. Its construction and traditional finishing techniques are visible through the sapphire-crystal caseback.

The chronograph's switching mechanism relies on a column wheel that coordinates the operation of multiple levers. Their extended design accommodates the dial's layout, allowing the mechanism to operate around the outsize date display and reach the repositioned subdials.

A. Lange & Söhne's Recent Limited Editions
