Hellenic Cables, an Athens-headquartered cable manufacturer, has expressed interest in supplying cables for the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor, a project planned to span approximately 3,000 kilometers with a target transmission capacity of 4 GW. The company's Business Development Director, Timoleon Manolopoulos, announced the interest in a video posted on the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy's social media accounts, according to Trend.
Manolopoulos Sets Out Hellenic Cables' Capacity
Manolopoulos said Hellenic Cables has sufficient production capacity, technological capabilities and experience in complex subsea cable projects to meet the initiative's requirements. He noted the company has doubled its submarine cable production capacity and can manufacture a significant volume of cable for the project.
"Projects involving the interconnection of energy systems with a high degree of complexity represent one of the core areas of our activity. The Green Energy Corridor project is a highly significant, yet complex, initiative. Its timely implementation requires large-scale production capacity, advanced technologies, and a high level of professional expertise in executing complex projects," Manolopoulos said.
"With our production capacity, technological capabilities, and experience in executing complex projects, we are very keen to support this initiative," he added.
Hellenic Cables operates five production facilities across three countries and employs 3,300 people, with products exported to 50 markets worldwide. Since 2012, more than 800 million euro has been invested in the company, whose core business areas include cables for power transmission and distribution, renewable energy, offshore wind, telecommunications, data networks, construction and industrial sectors.
The forum in Baku presented the results of the project's feasibility study to international investors, financial institutions and business partners for the first time. Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, said the study, initiated through a strategic partnership agreement signed in Bucharest in 2022 between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary, was completed this July and indicates the project is technically feasible and economically attractive. Shahbazov said the project holds a special place in Azerbaijan's strategy to become a regional hub for green energy production, transmission and export, and highlighted the reaffirmed political support during the recent visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Baku.
Hellenic Cables' Recent Contract Record
According to akta.pro company records, Hellenic Cables was awarded Lot A of the IPTO framework agreement for Greek island interconnections in June 2026 through its subsidiary Fulgor, valued at approximately EUR 1.15 billion and covering four EPCI projects with about 921 km of cables to be delivered between 2027 and 2031. The same records show the European Investment Bank provided a EUR 60 million counter-guarantee to HSBC Continental Europe under the InvestEU programme in June 2026 to enable advance payment and performance guarantee letters for Hellenic Cables. In April 2026, the company established Hellenic Cables America Co. and began construction of a medium- and high-voltage cable manufacturing plant in Baltimore, Maryland, expected to be operational in the second half of 2027.
Final Investment Decision Targeted For 2029
The forum agreed on the development of a partnership roadmap and next steps toward reaching a Final Investment Decision for the Green Energy Corridor project, with accelerating preparations for that decision in 2029 a key focus. The project is planned to be commissioned in phases starting from 2032.
