ZPMC-Built Rudong Offshore Wind Farm and Taicang Port Phase IV Win National Quality Engineering Awards

By ·

Key takeaways

  • China Three Gorges Renewables' 800 MW Rudong offshore wind farm received the National Quality Engineering Gold Award.
  • Suzhou Port's Taicang Port Phase IV project received a National Quality Engineering Award.
  • ZPMC built and installed the foundation piles, jackets and topside module for Rudong's offshore converter station.

Two projects in which Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) played a key role have been recognized in the 2024-2026 National Quality Engineering Awards, announced by the China Association of Construction Enterprise Management. China Three Gorges Renewables' 800 MW Rudong offshore wind farm took the Gold Award, and Suzhou Port's Taicang Port Phase IV project received a National Quality Engineering Award, PR Newswire reported on October 23, 2026.

Rudong Wind Farm Takes Gold Award

The Rudong offshore wind farm, with 800 MW of installed capacity, was fully connected to the grid in 2021. It generates about 2.4 billion kWh of electricity a year, enough clean power for roughly 1 million households, and saves about 740,000 tons of standard coal while cutting carbon dioxide emissions by about 2 million tons annually.

ZPMC built and installed the foundation piles, jackets and topside module for the project's centerpiece, the offshore converter station. When completed, the station was the world's largest and Asia's first offshore converter station.

Taicang Port Phase IV Sustainability Features

The Taicang Port Phase IV project pioneered a lifecycle structural health monitoring system for high-piled wharf structures. The system combines monitoring, assessment and early warning with building information modeling (BIM), enabling project teams to coordinate and manage every stage, from design and construction to operation and maintenance, using integrated digital tools.

Taicang Port Phase IV became the first Yangtze River port project to incorporate an onshore ballast water treatment facility and a system for collecting initial stormwater runoff. All mobile equipment at the terminal uses clean energy technologies, while solar power generation and hybrid wind-solar lighting further reduce energy consumption. The project's environmentally responsible construction practices earned a three-star rating for sustainable construction from the China Association of Construction Enterprise Management.

ZPMC's Global Port Equipment Reach

ZPMC Europe Projects & Services is the European regional subsidiary of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC), the Chinese state-owned manufacturer that holds over 70% of the global container port machinery market, supplying STS and RMG cranes, automated terminal systems, offshore engineering vessels, and steel structures to port operators, infrastructure developers, and offshore energy companies worldwide, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show container machinery products cover more than 70% of the world's market share across 100 countries, with products entering 108 global countries and regions and serving 300 terminals worldwide.

Earlier ZPMC Project Milestones

In October 2026, ZPMC won the CIIF Smart Energy Award for its 3,000-meter ultra-deepwater dual-pipelay crane vessel at the 26th CIIF in Shanghai, Business & Financial reported. The vessel features a 5,000-tonne fully revolving crane, J-lay and S-lay pipelay systems, and DP3 dynamic positioning.

In October 2026, China's Fanshi offshore wind project, with 18-MW turbines, reached full operation, marking the first large-scale use of such turbines in China, FinanzNachrichten.de reported. ZPMC built two offshore substations and a 500-kV reactive power compensation station.

In September 2026, ZPMC hosted a CIIE industry outreach event on September 22, attended by delegates from COMAC, CNNC, CSSC, and major banks, PR Newswire reported. The company has signed purchasing agreements exceeding $2.6 billion at the expo and will return for the ninth edition this November.
