Poland's TZMO Group has proposed an investment of around Rs 80 crore in Karnataka's KIADB Vemgal Industrial Area in Kolar district, a five-acre project that could generate around 1,000 jobs. Business News Today reported the proposal on October 23. The project would introduce the manufacture of smart adult incontinence pads in India for the first time.
TZMO's Kolar Project and the Poland Talks
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar highlighted the proposed investment at a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Bengaluru on October 23. Shivakumar invited Poland to partner with the state for the Global Investors Meet 2027, pointing to opportunities in technology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and renewable energy.
Shivakumar said Karnataka was keen to deepen cooperation with Poland in investment, technology, innovation and employment, drawing on Bengaluru's technology ecosystem and Poland's expertise in advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence and green energy. He also highlighted a Letter of Intent signed with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Katowice and Kato.hub to promote collaboration in AI, gaming and deep-tech innovation, including a proposed Karnataka-Katowice Digital and Gaming Corridor.
The chief minister invited Polish companies to explore opportunities in artificial intelligence, software, gaming, robotics, pharmaceuticals and research and development, and encouraged partnerships in research, education and technology transfer. Citing Infosys's nearly 20-year presence in Poland as an example of India-Poland technology cooperation, he said Karnataka would facilitate investments by Polish companies while helping businesses from the state explore opportunities in Poland.
Renewable energy, waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, sludge management and circular economy solutions were identified as other potential areas of collaboration. Shivakumar also invited Polish companies including Asseco and Polpharma to explore partnerships in information technology, software services, pharmaceuticals and research and development, and encouraged ORLEN and KGHM Polska Miedź to consider investment and technology collaboration in energy, petrochemicals and advanced manufacturing.
Other Cross-Border Investment Plans
Raffles Family Office agreed with Rwanda's development board to promote infrastructure and tourism projects, including a new airport in Bugesera, to its client network, aiming to mobilize hundreds of millions of dollars in investment, Reuters reported on October 22. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick visited GlobalFoundries' Malta headquarters on October 21, promoting the company's $21 billion Japan-backed expansion of its Saratoga County complex, American City Business Journals reported.
What Follows the Bengaluru Meeting
Shivakumar expressed hope that the Polish Prime Minister's visit would lead to concrete investment proposals that officials and business representatives from both sides could pursue after the delegation's visit. The meeting builds on previous engagements between Karnataka and Poland, including discussions in Warsaw last year between Karnataka IT and Biotechnology Minister Priyank Kharge and Poland's Deputy Prime Minister, as well as Poland's participation in the Bengaluru Tech Summit.
